I received an e-mail today from Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) about the 20th Anniversary of the San Ysidro Massacre in which a crazed lone gunman walked into a McDonald's in the town next to the Mexican border in CA and killed 21 people with an "Uzi Assault Weapon", etc. She used the occasion to urge me and others of her constituents to support the extension of the AWB.

I responded by e-mailing her back that if California had mandatory issue CCW it is entirely possible many of those 21 lives could have been saved since the bad guy was allowed to contibue killing innocent people until the San Diego SWAT team waited around almost 30 minutes for "permission" to take him out nearly an hour after he began his murderous rampage.

I also broughtup the Luby's cafeteria shooting, saying that a CCW permit holder in Texas (a female physician) was legally restricted from carrying her protective sidearm into the restaurant under then-applicable Texas law and was helpless as she watched both her parents shot dead by the gunman she could have stopped "if only" legally-armed citizens weren't so broadly restricted.

The Good News: MOST Americans (38 states so far) live in states that have passed CCW shall-issue legislation. As a Californai CCW permit holder I have actively encouraged many others to go through their County's process and while California lags far behind most of the country on this issue, there are a growing number of Californians who feel as we do.

Very Respectfully Submitted:
