PalmettoStateArms.com is having another 1 day sale. 325 rounds/$19.99 free shipping on 5 boxes. Looks like there is no limit on it this time. If you need 22 ammo...... go for it.

Tempting. It's certainly more available than a couple of years ago, but it's also been a long, long time since I could just waltz into Walmart and buy a bulk pack of 22s.

Very cool! Glad to see .22 on the local shelf. Hit it, Taylor!!

why aren't prices dropping? that's the same price it was 6 months ago.
i have plenty due to pre election jitters.
i'm hoping for better prices before i buy more.

You'll never see those prices again.

Now that they know we're willing to pay that price, they'll never go back to pre-Newtown levels.

well there are lots of people like me who stocked up n are in no hurry to buy.
in theory that should drive prices down.
6 months ago i bot a case of cci sv for $400 but i'm seeing prices higher than that now.
i'm wondering if this is free market supply n demand or something else.

+1

There are those of use who bought it when it was cheap, before Newtown.

I've been noticing a lot of good prices online recently. I might have to get a few boxes of minimags from Gander Mountain at that price.

I think you can say that prices are stable to dropping just a little. A lot is up to the retailer in terms of pricing. If they feel it will sell at a higher price (within reason), they'll probably ask it.

It depends. Willingness to pay changes with the supply and the political mood. If the ammo sits on the shelf because everybody has a stockpile and isn't panicking anymore, then the price will come down.

$19.99 for 325 rounds of Federal Auto-Match isn't that much over pre-Newtown pricing. It was between $15 and $18 around me before the craziness hit. After Newtown, I saw it go as high as $60. I'd bet that the shop that was selling it that high is still sitting on some of the same ammo that was on their shelves then.

My Walmart has had some form of .22 LR on the shelf for several weeks straight now. I saw boxes of Winchester 333 (~$18) and Federal Automatch (~$20/325 rounds) stay in supply for several days after the election, whereas two years ago they would last several minutes. :) CCI and/or Winchester 100-packs at about $6.50 - $7.50 each tend to stay in stock for several days after they receive a shipment of 10 or 20 packs. Bottom line, supply is beginning to catch up pretty well.

I have a case of it sitting on my shelf that I bought just before Newtown. It was $10.68 a box shipped. I also have a case of Federal 36 gr plated in 325 boxes that I got about the same time. It was $10.99 a box.

Sooner or later (Not just yet) people will get bought enough to calm their fears and stop buying it all up. Then prices will return to whatever the new normal is going to be. There are a lot of factors involved in that, not the least of which is brass and lead prices.

That is the kind of gun shop I will never visit again because of their pricing that was un-necessary. One really nice gun shop locally got crossed off my visit list as a result of these things. They did the same thing with most guns in terms of pricing. They can keep them.....

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of online pricing. It was never that cheap in stores near me. It might have been around $12 or $13 before the 2008 election, but prices shot up after that.

Not quite sure what the shop is supposed to do.

If they keep it at pre-panic prices, guys come in at "cheap" (regular) price and suck it all up for resale. And anything they buy (if they can get it) for restocking their shelves costs more than they sold it for.

If they raise prices, they are gouging

If they hold back, they are favoring their buddies

Just remember, we are kinds of giddy when some poor slob is getting caught in a bad situation and we get something below cost. This guy is taking a beating so we can brag to our friends about our great deal. But when he has a chance to work his side of the supply/demand curve, it's a criminal offense

Gander Mt Limit is 5 boxes per order. Got another 5 of CCI standard velocity to get free shipping.

redneck2: My thoughts exactly.

I'm just your regular consumer and I never got bent out of shape at that shops raised their prices, they have to eat as well. Their supply is drying up and they need to get those prices now if they are supposed to stay in business. What's a store owner supposed to do sell all their .22 at pre-Newtown prices and sell "bare shelves" for the next 3 years? Give me a break, because that is what would have happened they would have sold their inventory and had nothing to sell in regards to .22 ammo. People are ridiculous with the claims of gouging, last time I checked competition is at an all time high in the world and especially in this country with the advent of the internet. It's like everyone's hatred towards CheaperThanDirt, I don't get it, your a few "strenuous" clicks away from finding somewhere else to shop if you so choose. Don't like the price go shop somewhere else.

When I walked into the many stores that were selling .22 at ridiculous prices I understood that they have nothing to replace it with and thus need to make money with the little inventory they have, its SIMPLE business, but it seems they don't teach simple business and personal finance courses in school these days.

What Newtown showed me is that I need to keep a sufficient stock of items (not just .22lr) as our supply lines can get tight awfully fast.

But I'm glad that SUPPLY has caught back up with DEMAND so that all those gougers are getting theirs! ;)

I'm with redneck and fish about the supposed "price gouging" during the panic buying. The issue many have with CTD, and I agree with them, is that CTD cancelled orders in the pipeline and then jacked the prices of those items for resale. That was above and beyond the reason of supply and demand. That was dirty and scummy. The regular Joes trying to make a living had to pay more to replace their inventory and with that came higher retail prices. As mentioned, we don't have to buy from any specific vendor. In the end, the business will stay open or close down by the way they treat their customers.

larryh1108: I didn't know that about CTD cancelling orders, is there evidence of this or just internet hearsay? I'm not doubting you, but the internet banter can go off the rails fast these days.

I never ordered from CTD so I guess it's called internet lore but I was on these boards at the time and there were many complaints from guys who this did happen to. I'm sure a search for CTD would turn up any info you may want. So, I am guilty of passing on "rumors" but I do believe my brothers who posted their experiences here.
