22 Ammo cannot find

Thanks Ron. Manufacturing processes are probably closely guarded secrets. Even the tooling is probably proprietary.

I have give up on purchasing any more 22 ammo and will just keep what I have. Found it is cheaper to shoot most any of my other calibers, with exception to my 338 LM. Heck at scalper prices my 50 BMG shooting does not seem so costly!

Good time to own a Hornet. Reloadable 22. Not joking either. Got mine.

How long has this ".22 shortage" lasted?

If you had a 3-year supply of the ammo you actually used, would this "shortage" have affected you personally?
Been what? Coming up on a year? At the onset I had maybe 30K of 22 LR. Quite a bit to say the least, well quite a bit for me anyway.

For me a trip to the range during the summer is maybe an eight to ten hour day. I may shoot M1 Garand, M1A, AR10 or AR15. All in all maybe a few hundred rifle rounds. Shoot, BS, Shoot, BS and so it goes making for a nice day. Between shooting high power rifle I always drag out a 22 LR or two, makes for a pleasant change between shooting high power rifles. I may pop maybe a hundred rounds, maybe a hundred fifty max. A 500 round brick last me a long, long time.

I have 22 LR that was left over inventory from the gun shop we owned that I have had over a decade. When I am out and about anytime I see 22 LR or for that matter anything I load on sale I buy it. I am fortunate to be in a position to do that. This isn't the first ammunition drought and it won't be the last.

What I am seeing at Bass Pro comes as no surprise. They opened a new Cabela's in Columbus, Ohio several months ago. I think they sucked ammunition from every place on the planet and had plenty in the new store. Also cool was Cabela's Club members got in the night before the grand opening to buy stuff. That was cool.

In Wisconsin today and went to two Walmarts. Plenty of 40 and 45. One of them had quite a bit of Tula and PPU in 380 but neither had any 9mm or 22.LR.

Did I mention it's COLD up here?

Meh, I was saving money for ammo then a friend offered me first crack at his Gibson Les Paul he was selling so there went that.

Haven't shot rifle or pistol in a year, don't even bother looking for ammo any more. Last five times at Walmart I bought food and didn't bother looking in sporting goods. I have gone out clay shooting a few times this year, I guess Biden got what he wanted after all, I am reduced to shooting a shotgun.:D

Well, that's a good question because when the shortage hit and began to sink in by February, I pretty much stopped shooting except for occasional outings. I never really shoot much in the winter months anyway.... But I have "at least" a 3 year supply and it wouldn't have mattered really. But... my inner self pretty much wouldn't allow me to shoot much since I couldn't replace it without a lot of effort.

I was lucky today. I got a call for 22lr from Fleet Farm that I put my name in for in July. They said they have 3 bulk packs of Federal waiting for me. Not trying to rub it in on anyone. Just feels good I was able to get some 22lr finally and that putting my name in so long ago has paid off finally.

Wonder where they got that much 22. That's more ammo than my local Academy has seen in a full year let alone at one time

Yea the gander manager told me they will re route ammo going to established stores, in order to load up for a grand opening.

However, the lowly little 22 rimfire is another story.

Is that why you can't reload it? Or can it be reloaded? In other words, why are their millions of spent 22 cases littering my public range? (I didn't click the link)

Wal-Mart still had CCI Mini-Mag HP in stock this afternoon for $7.47 a box.

Apparently, the drought has ended.
Or the hoarders have run out of money & storage space.

Had a Black Friday sale at Midwest Guns in Mishawaka (South Bend) IN. My friend bought two bulk packs of Federal. They had plenty. I have .22 so I passed. Leave it for someone else

The drought has NOT ended. While some locales/regions might be seeing some 22lr now, others do not. Here in Oregon, none of the big box stores are getting in 22lr in any amount to keep a stock on hand. As soon as any comes in, it is gone within a few hours (if that). I had stopped by one of the retailers on Saturday and asked them about it. And, this is a store with a 100rd 22lr limit or 1 brick (if available) per person!

That's 11 cents (US) a round. Not really all that bad given the conditions we are experiencing at this time.

the online currency calculators put it at $0.1141 per round in USD today. The last time I bought CCi was pre-panick at $0.09 per round after tax.

Yeah, actually making 22 LR isn't an easy task. CCI and a few others have videos out showing the process. The lowly little 22 can be a complex round to actually manufacture, not a task you will do at your basement reloading bench anyway. :)

I guess I shouldn't complain then.
What about Eley Sport: I just bought 500 rounds at £39, which works out to $63.80 which is near 13 cents a round.

I am seeing some supply at our local stores in upstate PA. The price is 2x what it used to be and I pay that for a couple 100 rounds just to say I bought some. I have a small supply of mini mags(1400) so I buy a little bit to shoot and save the mini's. $12 per 100 for decent 40 grain HV.

I am finding centerfire ammunition, but no rimfire. I just bought my "limit" at Walmart of 38spl (winchester plinking quality) and some 40 S&W in 100 round boxes. But no venty two.

.22 LR shortages, I'm breaking out in a cold sweat, I'm down to my last 9 - 10,000 rounds! (stocked up back before the human skid-mark and his minions came to power back when you could afford .22 LR :neener:)

Went to walmart today and the ammo case was packed full. But no .22 whatsoever. As I was buying some .40 I asked about the .22 situation. Clerk told me its the same guys coming in early every day and buying up all the .22 3 boxes at a time.

Looking on Armslist I see all of that .22 being sold at $75 for 525 round value packs.

Clerk was disgusted about the whole situation and says that the guys that show up every day must have well over 200 value packs each and its the same group of 6 or so every day.

I really hope that .22 production ramps up and it becomes available again so that these price gouging hoarders get stuck with ammo that they will have to sell at cost or hopefully for a loss:fire: Its sad seeing a father have to tell his kid they cant go shooting because they cannot even find a single round of .22 anywhere.

If the re-sellers are buying at Walmart prices, even if they can't re-sell it for $50-$75 (mostly bulk packs), they aren't likely to loose money since they can always sell for cost. But they could get stuck with a lot of ammunition they could likely never use up themselves. The 200 bulk pack comment above made me think of that... that's 100,000 rounds. But honestly, my stash is a lot more than I care to mention on line and I don't re-sell.

The 22 ammo manufacturers are producing at maximum capacity according to what I read. What factory wouldn't when they can sell everything they produce without question?

Reading this thread made me think of the stories I read about the old Soviet Union. Folks taking off work to stand in line because a store was supposed to have a shipment of shoes. Taking all day going to 4-5 different stores trying to find one that had a cooking pot in stock, and only getting one because you knew the manager.
I acknowledge the differences but still....

Oh crap, we're turning into Russia. First it's ammo... then shoes... then pots and pans.
