.22 Hornet prices: too good to be true?

Winchester M-70's are made in South Carolina at the FN plant or so I have heard...not sure what you guys are talking about...heard something about a 22 bolt rifle that Winchester or Remington was importing from Russia I think.

There is a pellet rifle sold by both winchester and daisy that I managed to find that was built in Turkey I think...far from their bolt rifles.

Otherwise, their special edition rifles are generally made by Miroku in Japan.

Gun broker.com auction

As far as .22 Hornets go, that auction for the CZ Brno ZBK110 is over. The winner was some guy named....MARVINASH!

I love the .22 Hornet...started out with a 14" barrel on my T/C Contender with a 4x Leupold Piston scope...loved it. After 2 boxes of commercial ammo, I spent the princely sum of $16.oo and bought a Lee Loader kit. I found I can load 50-100 rds in the evening while just "sittin' around".

Where they make guns...

American Rifleman did a show on how Winchester was attempting to restore the quality reputation of it's M70 rifles and closed the story by saying that they would be made in Turkey. The obvious implication, to me, was that a quality rifle could not be made in the U.S. if keeping the price reasonable was also a factor.
The show about Weatherbys concerned a line of high quality shotguns - also to be made in Turkey. I'm more familiar with Weatherbys from the days when I lived and breathed ATA trap shooting. Meaning Weatherby trap-grade shotguns.
The ORIGINAL Win. Model 12 was always a favorite in it's trap model - surprising for a pump -it had a reputation for being "forgiving" (there have a been different trap grades of the Rem. 870s, but they've always been considered "beginners" guns. Comparing them to a Model 12 is a good way to get a laugh from the trap elite).
Why anybody thinks they know where anything is made today amazes me. The Chinese make a knock-off of the Ithaca Model 37, bottom ejecting, pump shotgun design that's beautified by Browning as their overpriced BPS. But I hear the Chinese give you a reasonably-priced, rugged - tho crude - shotgun made of high quality steel (no, I'm not saying the Browning is made in China).
The point is that I love Gun Tests magazine (yes, that was my point) because by not accepting advertising money they can commit a sacrilege on the scale of criticizing Rugers.
They (Gun Tests) tested the Weatherby shotgun made in Turkey and gave it a "D" - went for the obvious and called it a 'turkey'.

Pics

The gun pics will come soon: after my FFL receives it, and I go thru the 10 day waiting period on the DROS (for a single-shot rifle! Welcome to CA!)
We're also bogged down in snow, something that hits Castaic about every fifty years.
The last time I saw snow was 1968 at Ft. Sill. CA guys were taking pictures of it, and guys from places like MN, MI, PA etc. were shaking their heads, saying, "yeah, see how much you love it in the morning!" -confirming everything their mamas had told them about people from CA.

Seriously, I wish my FFL would call and say he got it. I can't reach him, and I'm getting antsy...
