.22 LR ammo?

Variety is the spice of life, especially with rimfire guns. Sometimes you have to try several different ones to find the gems.

With my Ruger autos, just about any HV RN round with feed and fire with good accuracy. SV rounds have also been good, and even more accurate IMHO. Keep them lightly lined and these pistols run like crazy.

I have not had luck with these Browning .22 rounds, they seem oversized and won’t cycle in my pistols or, ironically, my Browning .22 Auto rifle.

I also had a few batches of the bulk pack Aguila SE that had the same oversized bullet issues, like @243winxb mentioned above.

Stay safe.

My Ruger seems to be happy with any high velocity 22LR; my go-to is Mini-Mags. For bulk ammo, Federal Auto Match has worked best in my experience.

My Standard Mark II cycles everything I've put in it fine. Accuracy wise, it's hard to beat CCI Standard Velocity in it. As far as bulk packed, Blazer in the 500 box shoots almost as well. It is also quite good in all my other 22 handguns

I have a Ruger 22/45 that shoots okay with most ammo, but it's really accurate with Remington ammo.

Back in the day when Thunderbolt was decent ammo it shot very accurately in my 22/45.

I have some older Golden Bullet that's more accurate than CCI standard velovity.

If you're wanting accuracy, then I suggest you experiment with various loads to see what's most accurate in your pistol.

I did notice while in my farm & ranch store last week that 22 ammo prices had dropped a little. There was no more 100 round boxes of CCI anything but 2 50 round boxes are now 50 cents cheaper than the 100 rounders were. I only checked out the CCI HV and SV and they are priced the same.

My MK III 22/45 lite and MK IV Target along with my S&W 22-a are quite happy with subsonic ammo. The Rugers were fine when brand-new and needed no break-in. I bought the 22-a used but in excellent condition so I cant't say if it worked at first or not. A Ruger SR22 and one of the newer PPK/s 22's are single shots with SV ammo while dependable as a rock with HV. About all the ammo I buy now for me is either CCI or Aguila and they seem to perform alike although the Aguila has a wierd smell. GG kids get the cheap bulk Federal to save Granpa's billfold a little. Their trigger fingers work faster than mine. I did splurge a little and gave each a bulk pack of Aguila Super Extra for Christmas among other things.

Those are really bad. I don't know what Browning was thinking when they started selling them.
Ya, even in my revolvers I need to press them into the chambers…and they’re all honed smooth.

I read somewhere that the Olin-Winchester plant made the rimfire ammo, but that info isn’t on the box. There is just an address for Browning ammo in Maryland and Made in USA.

Stay safe.

My guns - Ruger MKII, 2 S&W K22 Masterpieces, like just about anything as far as plinking at targets or cans. For serious targets, CCI Standard Velocity work very well

You'll have to try several and see. For blasting, I use a lot of bulk ammo. People love to dog it out but I've used a ton of Remington Golden Bullets. Until I got into suppressors and started using a lot of subsonics, it was just about all I shot. I still use a lot of it out of pistols. For rifles, I shoot a good bit of CCI and Norma subsonic.
Golden Bullets as well as Federal's Bulk Black and Bulk Blue work very well in my guns

I picked up a bucket of Remington that didn’t want to feed in a few of my autos. I gave it a spritz of case lube shook the bucket around a little haven’t had a fail to feed since

I hit a gun show in Reno years ago where I picked up two cases or Rem Golden Bullets. Each case was 6,250 rounds and were $95 OTD. had to borrow the vendor's handtruck to take them out to m car (along with the 3 sleeves of Win 209s so I could come back in and buy more stuff. I shot those two cases over almost 20 years and they always worked. For range fun at soup cans and plastic water bottles, they worked great

I had a Mark I for many years. It had a relatively low round count for its age, but it ate everything I fed it. Well, I never shot any subsonics that I recall, but it handled HV & SV just fine, most of it bulk. Personally, I would avoid the Remington bulk, but if that’s what I had, I’d shoot it, too. Part of the question depends on what you want to do. The bulk ammo Federal I bought several years ago is fine for plinking, but I’d step up from that if I were shooting for bullseyes.

@Riomouse911 , what did you think of those Armscor loads that are sitting on top of the CCI standards?
I can get them for $3 something a box here. I tried them once in the S&W 22A1 that my best friend sent me for Christmas and they seemed to shoot ok, but I thought they smoked a lot.
That's quite a collection of 22 ammo you have there.
I guess I need to start stocking up to.
I have 2) 22 target guns now. The 22A1, and Buckmark Contour, one for each of my grandkids, and they like to shoot.

It’s good, but not what I would consider March-winning stuff. I’d say it’s on par with most Aguila or Federal bulk pack ammo, etc. I have several bricks of it in .22 LR and .22 WMR, if I remember right I bought a bunch of it just prior to the Ca law change banning Internet purchase with home delivery.

I buy and try .22 ammo all the time. With this 2x4’ shelf full back to the wall, another similar stash sealed in .50 cal ammo cans, and an few unopened cases and buckets on a third, It’s one round I doubt I’ll ever run out of. :)

Stay safe.

I must have been lucky cause I,ve never really had a lot of trouble with 22 ammo. I have 2 single shot bolt action rifles, 2 semi auto 22 rifles, 1 revolver 22 and 1 semi auto 22 pistol. Ranging in age from the early 1950s up to 2021. I use whatever ammo is on the shelf. I don't do match or anything like that. Just fun shooting using paper or whatever targets. The only real problems I've had was with the semi auto pistol and Beretta fixed that when I sent it back to them and an old semi auto rifle that needed a repair. After the repair it works fine. I'm no expert or anything but from my experience it seems to me that it's a semi auto problem more than a ammo problem. The 22 round has been around a long time and it is what it is. If I have to go through a bunch of ammo brands to find one that will work in my gun I would be very unhappy with my gun. I would be unhappy with any caliber gun if I had to use a certain brand ammo to get it to work. I've been shooting over 60 years and have had very, very few problems with 22 ammo in single shots and revolvers and most complaints I've heard have to do with semi autos. Especially semi auto handguns. I think it's unfair to blame the ammo in most cases. I would say if you really want to have some fun shooting 22. Get a single shot rifle or revolver.

I'm still shooting up cases of Thunderbolts I bought and stacked floor to ceiling in the late '80's.

Decent stuff then but I wouldn't bother with it today.

Federal or CCI would be my choice today.

Winchester and Browning 22 LR have been "walk on by" ammo to me for a few years now. It's a shame because Super X used to be one of the most reliable brands available.
💯, bottom of the barrel at best. As a longtime Browning aficionado, it makes me sad to see the Browning name on absolute garbage ammunition.
