I've spent some time the last few weeks looking for a 22 lr rifle in stores and online. Is it just me or is there a shortage of available options out there?

I get that there have been shortages of ammo, primers, and rimfire rounds, but 22 rifles as well?

How is the 22 rifle stock in your neck of the woods?

ordered a Winchester Widlcat yesterday, was going to get a 10/22, but they didn't have the model I wanted, so - just went for something else.

I agree. I want a Ruger American Compact in .22 mag and they are nowhere to be found. I get Glocks, AR's and AK's, but bolt action rimfires leave me scratching my head. I guess companies might have shutdown certain lines to ramp up production for others......I am ready for all this madness to end...

Not a one at the last gunshow. I know because thats what I was specifically looking for.

Still a few at local pawn and gunshops.....prices are inflated like everything else though.

I saw a 1022 base model at Walmart with wood stock, pretty slim.

10/22s are still available, but a regular woodstock version not so much. Seen lots of Rossi gallery pumps, some Mossbergs, one store has a handful of the Henry special editions, they probably won't sell ever since they are $1100. I bought a traded in but NIB Marlin 60 SB with the matching stainless scope for $300. Can't wait to bring it home

I'm dismayed, but not surprised by yet another shortage. I'm really disappointed to hear about shortages at gun shows. I love gun shows and look forward to the day the shows will be open again, WITHOUT THE FREAKING MASKS.

There seems to be a shortage of everything else, so why not 22s?

If you can plink with a .22 LR then you can plink with a Spring Piston Air Rifle.
If you want to poke holes in targets the .177 cal is a good choice.

I've been traveling for the holidays and only saw 1 of those at Sportsmans Warehouse, a 10/22 air rifle. The rest of the shelves were bare except for children's air rifles.

It was nice to be in a free state and see coolers full of standard capacity pmags.

There's currently a shade under 2000 listed on gunbroker right now.

When I sniffed a panic coming on I bought a lot of 22 mag. For some reason that round does not weather “shortages” very well.

Everything is short now. When the craziness started, I invested heavily in 22 LR, because at the time no one wanted it. Yesterday I dropped into wally world to take a look at what was available. Plenty of guns, but no ammo. Not one single round of ANYTHING.

I don't know why, but there doesn't seem to be any shortage of shotguns around here.

Guys and gals, I have looked at several of my wholesale distributors and I can honestly say that I have more ammo and components than they have in stock. If you count only guns priced under $1000 I have them beat on that too. It is awful. I had around 7000 rounds of 22lr but sold some to friends who haven't learned to stock up before an election. Still have 3000 or so. No more is going out the door.

I am with you on this one. The last time there was a shortage of 22 LR, it caught me a bit off guard. Since then I have not missed to opportunity to buy quality rimfire ammo and bulk 22 LR for plinking. It seems like every other week someone had a sale for a bucket of this or a brick of that. I just slowly accumulated my stash. It was raining here yesterday so I went through my ammo to make sure it was all clean and safe as well a get a rough estimation for each caliber. I am embarrassed to say how much 22 LR I have stored up, but it will out last the next several presidencies.

Same here with WM. They still have about 4 boxes of shotgun shells, but the shelves are bare except for those. The guy there told me that they aren't sending them ANYTHING. He thinks something is up because it's an entirely different deal than prior panics when they still got some ammo along, but just not enough to meet demand. Now, they aren't getting any at all because the WM supply chain has apparently dropped ammo, either holding it in their warehouses for some reason, or they've quietly stopped carrying it. This too is in Florida where we are still a free state. It's not like we're in one of the over-taken communist states like NJ or Kali. So, something may actually be up with WM. Are they expecting trouble and don't want to be a part of it? Have they caved to some type of pressure? Who knows.

I can't imagine how many 22lr rifles are owned in the US , no one just has one. Seems people either have several or none at all. Over the years I've accumulated more than I'll admit to, not intentionally. Realistically a good 22 rifle will do the majority of what needs to be done so I can understand the folks without a 22 that always meant to get one buying a couple.

Guys like me with several 22 rifles and still trying to burn through Obama era ammo haven't felt any impact from a 22 shortage, I have seen plenty on the shelves at small out of the way gun shops- it wasn't cheap though. I'll never forget seeing 22lr for $.18+ per round a few years ago, it blew my mind. I'm the 500 rd box of bulk as a starter type of guy and before I had kids I would pretty regularly shoot 1000 rds of 22lr every other weekend or so. Didn't think anything about it. Ahhhhh, the good old days (who refers to 2010 as the good old days?!?!?!:barf:)

I don't think so. If there was some politically driven chicanery afoot, I would think that the guns would have been removed from the inventory as well. When they opted to stop selling rifles and ammunition that they considered "evil", or whatever you want to call it, they weren't a bit shy about press-releasing these decisions, and the items were PHASED out of inventory. As in, existing stocks were liquidated, and not re-stocked. Remember the $600 mini 14's? Or the pistol ammunition that they were almost giving away? I bought Tula 40 S&W and Winchester 38 sp ball for $5 a box. I read somewhere that sam was selling 20% of all retail ammo in the US at one time. That's a LOT of ammo.

The WM close to here is sort of weird----they built new display cases about 6 months ago but the guns come and go--completely full to empty no rhyme or reason-----I picked up 2 boxes of CCI Stingers about week or 2 ago but now the ammo is completely empty.

I was just at my local gun shop/ range yesterday and they had at least a dozen different .22 rifles in stock. Ruger, Savage, Bergara, S&W...semi auto or bolt.
