I'm loading 223 using surplus pulldown 844 powder with 55 grain fmj bullets. What overall length are you guys using for this combo and what overall length do you recommend for 62 grain fmj bullets using the same powder? I'm loading 26 grains for the 55's. The data sheet calls for 25 - 27 grains. For SHTF loads, I try to stay middle of the road. Thanks

Good choice, good powder. As for OAL, I load to just fit in the mag without dragging on the tip, which also happens to be the length that my cartridge gauge shows to be where the bullet doesn't protrude from front.

I'm assuming this is for an AR? You are constrained by the mag as to OAL, that's what my cartridge gauge is set for.

For the 62's, I load the 60 V-max at 24.0 WC-844, not a max load, but great for accuracy. I also use the Hornady 60 hp, it shoots as well if not a bit better than the V-max.

My powder is pull-down from Jeff Bartlett at gibrass.com I noticed a slight reduction in velocity from the new WC-844 he had to the pull-down stuff.

223,844 - Now that is a lot of questions

Haven't used it, just could not resist.

OAL

OAL by the book is 2.25, I also use WCC844 with a Hornady 55GR. FMJ I have
loaded over 8,000 rounds and so far so good.

Here is the load data straight from thr military ammunition book.

My Hornady 7th edition says the COAL should be 2.20 for 55gr FMJ. You could seat the bullet to the cannalur, but work up your load. Also you can use H335 data with WC844, so you may check out Hodgdon's website for data, but I believe they list COAL at 2.20 for 55gr projectiles as well.
