.223 and .308 upper

Seems I should know this but I don't. I have a DPMS Sweet Sixteen .223 AR. I am wondering if I can buy a .308 upper to use on the lower. Are these interchangable? Seems it would be a nice way to have both calibers with one gun. Thanks in advance.

They are not interchangable. The .308 is too long to fit in the mag well for one thing.

A .308 upper will not fit on a 5.56mm/.223 lower. The .308 cartridge is too long.

From an article I've read, I believe you can, however, use the new .458 SOCOM top end?

There are lots of uppers that you can use with a .223 lower (9mm, 45acp, 7.62x39, etc.) but .308 is not one of them.

I think also Bushmasters' 45 bushmaster will work as well. The only ar in know of that is totally modular, is MGI WEAPONS. this includes the magwell.
