.223 Bolt Action w/ the Following:

I know a certain person who has several adapters (look like they're from a SAW) that adapts a stock to an AR-15 magazine. Wouldn't it be nice to mate that to a good bolt gun action?

He has them for sale.

Fro...yeah, man, fast fast fast! You can alter those strippers, or make do with buying them occasionally. Personally I like the idea of adapting one to take AR mags.

Hmm...might have to buy one of those adapters.

Come on fellas, this is SKUNKABILLY we're talking about here... We all knew what he wanted it for... And what's with all the WOOD STOCK SUGGESTIONS?

Skunk will take any color, as long as it's Tactical Black!

:D

1. How are the ADL sights--I have yet to get a good look at one. They will be for backup to the scope.

2. About this stripper clip talk, wouldn't a scope preclude their use, unless it is set up as a scout? How difficult is it to set up an ADL or LTR as a scout anyhow?

The adl sights are, quite frankly, crap. (like most sporter sights.) they don't seem to get in the way of a scope, though. I'm leery about only having four rounds on tap, though.

Well, your original spec called out for top-load ability, and iron sights.

Iron sights on a Rem 700 is not as good, you lose the sight radius, because the rear sight ends up being in front of the scope, much like the sights on rifled shotgun barrels. One of the contributors to accuracy of the M1A is the long sight radius.

Detachable magazines end up not being as reliable, from what I have read.

As to tactical black, there are ways of getting that. Personally, I like the Hogue rubber overmold stocks with the full length aluminum bed. Sticks to your hand, and its black. :D

Stripper clip guide, more like a cutout, would not preclude scope mounting, but using the stripper clip would mean that you don't have the scope mounted.

I think this is what Skunky should get. :D

Regarding .223 strippers, look for Canadian issue ones. They're black plastic and are MUCH easier to use than US metal ones. They have little nubs at each end that keep rounds in but don't make stripping difficult of break off. The Canadians also issue loading guides that cover the whole clip, rather than the little US adapter bits. I've been using them with my Daewoo for some time, and they're great.

Friend of mine has a CZ rifle. His is a .22 rimfire, but the quality is better than anything I've seen from a new rifle in quite some time. If I ever get around to purchasing another non-milsurp turnbolt, it will be a CZ. Not too big a fan of their pistols (though it seems like a bunch are), but their rifles are tops. Other CZ rifle owners seem to agree.

The CZ 527 FS beats your weight requirement by half a pound (only weighs 6), has a 5-round detachable magazine and has (by all indications) *good* iron sights. Mannlicher wood stock, but hey, a little class will do you good. ;)
