i'm trying to work up a load strictly for practice, training for tactical rifle matchs. wondering who has the cheapest 55fmj bullets. whats the cheapest powder that will work.

Not sure about bullets but for powder you can't beat WC-844. It's pull down powder that is supposed to be the same as H-335. H-335 is my favorite powder for 55 grain bullets. I have been using WC-844 and been getting the same results as with H-335. You can buy WC-844 for $85 for 8 pounds. Check out http://patsreloading.com/patsrel/prices.aspx?category=Powder.
I agree WC844 is just about the best surplus bulk powder you will find for the .223/5.56mm.

Normaly I would say check Hi-tech ammo, but there out of the 55grn ones now and I don't think you can beat the free shipping.

They do have pull down 62grn bullets 3k for $205.00 + shipping.

That is a pretty awesome price. With that bullet, their WC844 powder and some of their CCI primers, you can make a really cheap practice round.

thanks for the information guys! that WC844 powder sounds like a great deal.now who has loading data for it? my loading manual does not list it?

WC-844 uses the same data as H-335, it should say that on the bottle when you get it. Start at the starting charge and work the load up.

wideners.com has 55 gr bullets pretty cheap.

My pet load right now is 55 gr fmj with 24.5 gr TAC

Yes. I have always saved all of my brass, but I've never reloaded 223. I usually trade rifle brass for more pistol brass. I might look into this now, that I realize I can shoot for roughly 1/3 cost.
