Well, this is a cartridge that caught my attention and made me a little excited. The 2700fps with with a 90gr, 3000fps with a 75gr is very intriguing to say the least. From what I'm being told is that those velocities are lower than handloads will be by far. I have been talking with a small shop builder, he is telling me that they are seeing around 2900fps with the 90's, hes getting 3050fps with the 80's, and over 3100fps with the 75's using reloader 15 in a 20" barrel... that conversation made me go ahead and order a complete upper. I'm getting a 24" criterion barrel threaded 5/8x24, raptor charging handle, rifle + 2" adjustable gas system, and other parts he recommended. I'm planning to use this upper along with the lower on my grendel. I'll post pictures after I get it in after about 5ish weeks. Anyone else thinking about this caliber?

It's caught my eye, the chambering makes a lot of sense for the kind of shooting I like to do. I recently put together a .223 SPR type rifle complete with a decent barrel and trigger, and the results i'm getting from that have made the platform more interesting to me as a whole. If the .224 could be pumped up a bit from the factory numbers, it starts to look very good at range, especially from an AR-15 sized rifle.

I think an AR that would pump out mag fed 80gr ELDs at ~3,000 fps could find a way into my safe. What I'd really like to know is if the new 95gr SMK could be loaded in a Valkyrie case at mag length without taking up too much powder space. The BC on the 95s is supposed to be around .6, loaded at 2,700 fps or so, it would beat out my economy 6.5 Creed practice load in the wind.

A 95 gr. Sierra MatchKing HPBT will definitely eat into case capacity. The 90 gr. protrudes .261" below the case neck when seated at 2.26 OAL.

Call me crazy but I'm just not seeing the hype. 77g bullet at 2740 fps (223) or 75g bullet at 3000 fps (224 Valkyrie) same diameter bullet. Maybe it shines in the heavier bullets but I feel like this is a super small niche this round is trying to fill. 6.8 spc fits in an AR and pushes a 90g bullet to 2850 fps. Cool name though, probably see lots of marketing and operators using this one.

75 gr bullet l:rofl: what a wimping bullet i can shoot lower the a 124 grain 7.62 in rifles
everyones going smaller and i am going bigger with my new saiga 308 LOL

Again with the balistic coefficient of a brick, ok a pointy brick, and a longer heavier rifle to boot lol. :D
:p
All teasing aside, theres nothing wrong with the .308 (or its decendents) for most applications.
For guys with them already in hand or contemplating builds on the ar or other short magazine platform the short high performance sub .30s have some distinct advantages.
Personally im interested in the case, and the very likely 6-6.5mm wildcat or semi proprietary cartridge that come from it.

i like the 6.5 mm also seems like the japs in ww#2 had a good sniper round their also for those times on the islands aiming at the marines on the beaches from the mountains and hills lite recoil

Im in the midst of planning another project, and i just realized something, that actually has some bearing on this thread. If we consider the round outside of the ar15 and mini action platforms.
The 2 things i really consider an improvement over the .22 nosler design (the full SPC size case rim, and the shorter length making it fit better in the 2.26" magazines) and really like about the federal version of this round, are going to be the two things that make me go for the Nosler version.
Im planning on rebarreling my 700 in 6x47 to something else in the semi near future. If there is for some reason a 6 or 6.5x22Nosler by then ill go with that. Otherwise ill use a fast twist standard .22 Nosler.
The .378 rim size makes it just a barrel swap, and the slightly larger case can be taken advantage of in my 2.5+ length magazined rifle.

Probably an unusual situation as most folks who want more than an .223 in a bolt gun will go buy a .22-250 .243 or something similar.

Tho now that ive thought about it again I guess you could form nosler brass to a valk chamber to get the rim size .

Well i wanted to give a partial update. The valkyrie is impressive to say the least. The factory 90smk and 75fmj are shooting sub-moa and running 2740 and 3030 fps in my 24" rifle. Today I handloaded some 80gr eld with varget, tac, and h4350. 21.5-22gr varget @5/8", 25.5gr tac @ 3/8ish", and 25.9gr h4350 @ 1/2" were my accuracy loads. Not sure what the velocities are as of yet, but hope to get those asap. For any curious about it, GET ONE!

Which upper did you get anyway?

I had paul craddock @ craddock precision build my upper with my input. Was right at $1000 and is VERY nice and well built. I went with the criterion barrel instead of the higher end barrels for cost mainly. When I shoot this barrel out, I will probably have a bartlien to replace it.

The hype is that with the 90 grain bullet, it is super sonic beyond 1300 yards and wind effect is way reduced over the .223, that's all.

Myself, I feel an upper coming on....

If you like somewhat underpowered intermediate cartridges shot out of autoloaders, like they did 111 years ago, try the Winchester 1907 in 351 Winchester. 180gr. Kick it up a notch

As much as i actually want an 07 in 351....id rather have Valk for most uses lol.
But dayum a 351 would be cool.....

That option would certainly be similar to the 224 Valkyrie in that they both send bullets out of the end of a barrel using combusting gunpowder....
