I was going plinking yesterday so I stopped by a local gun store to pick up some ammo. The owner is a friend of mine, but tends to exagerate. He said that he is almost out of 22 ammo and he doesn't see any comming in the near future. He said that almost everyone is out. I checked two other stores and they were both out. Is there a shortage on 22's. He made it sound like the country is out of it forever. I told you he exagerates, that's why I am asking.

Also, I have had trouble procuring 9mm and 454 ammo as well. Is this all due to Politics?

He IS EXAGERATING --- here in northern Illinois --- there is NO SHORTAGE of .22 or 9mm.

My local Farm & Fleet has .22rf for $16 a brick.

Thanks. He only sold me 100 rounds, and refused to sell me a 500rd box of CCI. I'll try to order some from Midway or Sportman's guide.

    Thanks again.

Technically he is not completely wrong. Due to the current political climate and the panic that has ensued in regards to potential guns bans, ammo bans, ammo taxes, the coming apocalypse, 2012, economic turndowns, Microsoft Windows 7 and the very real possibility of cats and dogs living together....mass hysteria, ammo has been a bit scarce.

You should be able to find ammo but it may not be quite as easy as normal due to abnormally high demand right now.

"33$ for some freaking wadcutters???" I know my 44's are running between $38 to $50 a box depending on brand. For example, Corbon 260gr. BCHP are running $48 for a box of 20.

I am expecting an increase in the price of 22 ammo at Walmart when they start getting more in regionally where supply out paces demand.

There is 22 ammo around. Sometimes you have to look for it. I picked up some target grade 22 this past weekend and had a shipment arrive today as well. But Walmart still does not have any of the cheaper stuff.

    messinge2,
I am talking .38 wadcutters. I expect 35 a box for SD ammo, but not plinking ammo.

Here in Northern PA .22LR ammo is just about the only ammo you can find easily.

WalMart has some Winchester Xpert HV 500 round bulk box ammo (silver box, high velocity) for $12.95. It's a special NRA box.

We have what is generally conceded to be the "World's Worst Wal Mart" in our town, but they've got bulk and boxed .22 RF in several flavors and WW 9x19 in 50 and 100 rd. packs to boot. I bought three 525 rd. boxes of Federals the other day for $13.95/ea.

    Gunfighter123 is SPELING.

Anyway, here in SW Idaho, Wal-Mart is out, Big 5 is out, Sportsman's Warehouse is out, Cabela's has had some but is getting cleaned out.

...unless you want snake loads. Plenty of those still around.

    No exaggeration.

I shoot in .22 matches, so I need to keep a stock on hand. Therefore, I notice.

You know, all those people who bought guns recently are headed out to try them at the range. That's my guess.:)

It's not like the Army uses up all the .22LR.

My local gunshop guy says the .22LR is soon to be hard to find. Why? Because shooters want to shoot and handgun ammo is either too expensive or impossible to find so the mass movement to .22cal.

    A thought...

The first big ammo maker that CLUES IN to this change in demand can CLEAN UP by selling damn near all the .22LR in the US for at least a few months.

I'm surprised one didn't already do this earlier.

    Cabelas has lots

Cabelas near St. Louis has tons of 22LR. Not the best price, but $20-25 a brick of 500. Better than none at $13 a brick.
