230 JHP .45ACP load

    I still cannot get the search to work so I'll ask............

    What is your favorite load for the 230 JHP .45 ACP w/5"bbl.?

    6.0 grains Unique.

    6.5 grains if I'm feeling frisky & inadequate!

    5 gr. of Bullseye under your favorite bullet. :)

    rcmodel, have you chronoed that 6.0 of Unique? I tried that and that load felt very hot in my 5" Kimber. It does have a weak spring though.

    5.6gr of WW231. Gives around 810-840fps out of most 5" barrels and is clean-burning and easy to shoot.

    6.8 to 7.0 gr of Power Pistol gives around 850-880fps out of most 5" barrels. Also clean burning, definitely not too hot, but has some muzzle-flash, if that matters.

    No, but it has been one well known "Factory Duplication" GI hardball load for at least 50 or more years.

    4 grains of Clays, Hornady jacketed HP, WLP, OAL 1.235, taper crimp to .469. Soft as a baby's bottom.

    My best for 230gr JHP (XTPs and Golden Sabers) are:

    8.5gr AA#5
    4.8gr Red Dot

    These have an OAL of 1.245"
