A 10-day roadtrip to south texas. Likely driving all night, rest areas, late night fuel stops, etc.
Mrs will have her LCP. 20190521_222223.jpg
I could carry my LCP. It's compact, comfortable to carry, familiar and effective.

My current favorite handgun, a model 66 s&w. Heavy, bulky, accurate, powerful. Excellent shooter. Super cool imho.

The logical choice. ..My ruger SR9C hi-cap 9mm. Mounted weapon light. A gun that I have officially trained with in combat classes. Reliable, concealable, accurate, high capacity.

Aside from the 17hr trip, we will be sightseeing, fishing, shopping, and a day or two of hog hunting. There will be a rifle with me. On this same trip last year, I just carried my lcp. I will likely do the same this time.
Of course, I really dont need help with this decision.
I'm curious. What would you choose to carry?

I go through this every year on my annual to WNC. I end up taking several. The logical choice for me would be to take the two I normally carry here, a Kel-Tec PF9 and a Kel-Tec P32, and they do always go along.

Last year, for reasons I pretty much made up, a Remington R1S Commander, a vintage stainless Charter Arms Undercover, and a Winchester 94 all rode along. I'm sure there was a .22 pistol along, too, but I don't remember for sure.

I also want to say, "You're going to Texas. Take 'em all." With "driving all night, rest areas," etc., that would also mean leaving some of them in the car for pit stops, though. I wouldn't want to leave a gun in a car (even if the car is locked) at a rest area after midnight.

I'll go with: SR9c and the LCP. I like the SR9c generally, but the LCP provides a backup for either you or Mrs. Farmer, should something happen to either of your primary pistols.

Armored hunter

I'm of the same thought as Spats: take both the SR9c and LCP! If it were my guns I would take my SR9c and my P3AT just so I have something on me at all times.

Bon Voyage on your Texas excursion and you and Mrs. Armored farmer take care!

General guideline:
Carry whatever concealable gun you would prefer in hand if you had to defend yourself, location nor time of day factored.

Is IL permit recognized in TX and the states you have to drive through?

My personal tastes would have me carrying something larger than the LCP and smaller than the other two. Anyway, with the current dynamic situation involving COVID-19, I'd take the one I'd want to have if I got stuck for an extended period in a place where I didn't want to be.

Simple choice for me: the Ruger SR9c. But I would not have the light on it. I prefer a handheld flashlight because using it does not require me to point a gun at someone. But I do have CT green laser on my EDC. I see a laser as bigger benefit in dim or dark light that a flashlight.

Unfortunately, that is weighing on the back of my mind....but I'm not planning to participate in the panic mentality. We are not going to change our plans.

I generally pack my 2.0 Compact 9mm on road trips, even if it's relegated to more of a truck gun. I do carry it too but as an all day option it's a bit big and bulky. So for the carry gun I'll generally also bring along my Shield or LCP.

A midsize double stack pistol is a far cry from a rifle but I like having more than a conceal carry pistol when I'm a long distance away from home, and it's no slouch either.

New Braunfels, Gruene, and San Antonio are not south texas. They are mostly considered central texas/hill country. Beautiful area. Be sure to get out with the missus and see some bluebonnets around Fredricksburg.
Will do.
Were gonna eat at salt lick bbq and maybe have a cold one in luckenbach
