I like the darker as well.

You said they images you posted were 50% of actual size, so these are going to be the little ribbons then right? Approximately3 to 4 inches tall?

Matt - Dav - GOT Over 500 are already spoken for... if you order 1,000 of the #2 dark, they will all be gone within a month after you receive them.

This great! If we order 500 the price drops to $1.90/magnet, and if we order 1000 the price is $1.50/magnet, right?

Cacique500 the actual size will be approximately 8 x 3.9 inches. They are the same size as all those popular yellow "Support Our Troops" magnet ribbons (MagnetAmerica.com prints those to). I guess the size gets all messed up depending on what kind, size and settings of the computer monitor one has.

Just so everyone knows, the darker gray color is from MagnetAmerica's proof. We specified a lighter gray (for better contrast and readability). So until we talk to them tomorrow we won't know why they made it so dark. It could be that they made a mistake. It could be that the metallic color I talked to them about, figures out to be that dark when they try to represent it on a light-emitting medium (a computer monitor). I don't know yet.

The problem arises when we have dark text AND a dark background. Either the text must be dark and the background light OR the text light and the background dark. If they are too close in value of light -vs- dark, then the readability will be hindered and we don't want that for an item that will go on a car. It would be fine for a poster where people will stand in front of for several seconds. But for a moving medium (your car) the contrast must be emphasized for quick recognition.

I'm submitting a "change diagram" on the proof for MagnetAmerica.com to correct several minor details. Then we will get another proof (dav gets the proof since the project is in his name), correct or accept it and then they print.

I have a slightly different take, or opinion on the purpose of the ribbon; it is to be recognized as a cause...its readability is secondary. Most ribbons out there are recognized/identified by their color, not by what they say on them. No matter the color, it is most difficult to read anything that sized on the fly. The message on the ribbon, more often than not, is read as we walk by while the car is parked or stopped, or when the car in front of us is waiting at a stop light/sign. After a while, our ribbon will be recognized by its color, because they have read its message before, when standing still. Do I make any sense?

Yes, makes sense to me, and good point:cool: I was getting to where I couldn't see the forest through the trees, heh.

The other day I thought I saw a gray ribbon on some black Chevy truck (and just about panicked, thinking the color was already used). So I made my way though traffic to catch up with that truck. When I got close enought to figure out what it was I saw that it was a POW/MIA black ribbon... whew. Great to see it though.

While the color will eventually symbolize our cause, it will take time for the correlation to occur. I would guess that over a million of those yellow ribbons are out there, in addition to the fact that yellow is already known to symbolize military support, and since we don't have those numbers we need visibility/readability or the correlation will never develop. With any luck, and if we do our part, silver will be as familiar yellow some day.

One thing for sure, all your efforts and hard work - Matt, Dav, GOT, will not go unnoticed; soon these ribbons will be seen by a whole bunch of people... and will not take long before their symbol becomes part of the gunners' landscape. Thanks, guys.

Checking back in . . .

After some time (and experimentation, see below) version #1 is gowing on me. Put me down for 5, now, maybe more later. I'd like to show them at some gun shops to see if they have any interest in quanities, but want to be able to show them the real thing.

I still like the "Restore 2nd Amendment Rights" or "Second Amendment Rights" better. Over the weekend, I made one that looked OK (but low resolution) on my computer. I found that you can buy 8.5 x 11 sheets of magnet/paper that you can run through your printer and then cut to shape. $12 for 4 sheets. You can print 3 ribbons per sheet. I had to try it out. Well, it looked OK, but was kind of bland and fuzzy. I stuck it on my car next to a yellow "Support Our Troops" ribbon and drove around (including in some light rain). The experiment was not to judge reaction (there was none) but to see how it looked (bright blue on gray), etc.

Bottom line: Leave it to the professionals. Might last better if over-laminated to protect printer ink. Magnet sheet is thinner but OK for indoor use. This method might work if you really, really wanted only a few of a unique design.

Big thanks to GOT, Mattz357, oldfella, and others for making this happen.

UPDATE...

I talked again with MagnetAmerica.com's graphic people today. I expressed my concerne for the darker color of ribbon. They are going to talk about it internaly tomorrow.

They are now going over the "change list" and the "artist proof" I sent them yesterday. We will be getting another proof from them in a day or so.

mattz357 has been doing some recruiting so here I am! (by the way Matt it's me Troy) Put me down for 10 #2. Oh yea, this newbie likes the darker color too!!:D

UPDATE...

I talked again with MagnetAmerica.com's graphic people today. They say they will have another proof for us on Monday (the proof representing the changes that we requested be made to their first proof).

I'll take 5 of the #1 design... either color is OK though I guess I'd prefer black text.

Edit to add - At $2.xx, I'll take 5 of whatever design, whichever color... If they get down to $1.xx a copy, I'll take 10... Again, totally open to design...

Havng actually read the thread now, I'm totally open to whichever design keeps cost down allowing for widest distribution... And actually, I'd prefer it to just say '...shall not be infringed' so as long as that is on the design, I'm happy...

:p

I would also take 5 of the design that gets the best acceptance. My vote is for #2 in a gray ribbon and royal blue text. But, I will not be disappointed with any decision made. The message is the main thing.

Hey Mattz357, yes, they sent a proof. However they added a color (for a total of 3... we want a 2 color job. Some miscommunication happened.). So I emailed them some more instructions late last night and then they emailed me back early this morning and I just now replied back to them with some clarifications. They are great to work with, however there is some miscommunication as we both try to figure out what each other is wanting.

It should all be cleared up today. They have the design down-pat, its just a slight color issue now. SO, we should have another proof today sometime, I hope :)
