Yeah. OUCH!!! I'd much prefer a clean miss. The man (or woman) wearing that is probably still out of the fight with broken ribs and or sternum and possible pneumothorax. But most likely will survive. But they'll probably think they are dying.

I did measure it, but the video got pretty bad about that time, with lots of wind, shaking, and shooting from other people at the range. I got 1.6", though. That's just below the limit for NIJ standards. My clay isn't the right type, though, and it isn't in a proper fixture, so the actual measurement could be above or below that. Tests like mine are never conclusive and should only be taken as a rough indication of the potential for performance.

I guessed right (and it was only guess because I'm not familiar with the ammo or the newer armor). But that deformation looked ugly. I'd take a kick in the jimmy before volunteering to take that kind of trauma. When I see tests like this, I'm reminded of the first bullet-proof vest tests. Dude shoots another dude wearing the vest.

If I remember right, the first bullet proof vests tests, the guy who designed the vest shot himself. Talk about faith in your product!

Just as an aside, Turkish surplus ammunition has a VERY poor reputation and has been known to blow guns up. The theory is that the coating/configuration of the powder grains has deteriorated over time, causing it to burn MUCH faster than intended.

That is a good assumption.

Is it bad that I've seen Saving Private Ryan so many times that I can recognize a 0.5 second sound clip from the movie?

Wow that's impressive! I wonder what a .300 Winnie Mag could do if loaded up with one of those WW2 .30-06 AP rounds? Has anyone ever done anything like that?
