So my friend showed me a three gun competition on a TV show today. I found the shotguns to be very interesting. Particularly the "open" class shotguns. I had never seen shotguns with speedloaders nor magazines that looked to be roughly 36" long! I couldn't tell if they were soley modified semiautos or if they are factory options. Frankly, I couldn't tell what make of shotgun they were useing but I guess that underneath some were familiar Remington or Winchester autos. What do you all know about them?

USPSA/IMG "Open" class shotguns can use optical sights, porting/compensators, and detachable magazines/speedloaders. They can start with up to 11 rounds in the gun, and have no limits as to barrel length.

The most common Open shotgun is the Remington 1100. Benelli M1/M2s and Winchester Super X2s also make a showing. A few people shoot Saiga-12s.

I've never heard of a factory Open-class shotgun, but there are plenty of outfits that will build one for you. http://www.jprifles.com/ShotgunPerformancePackage.html

Like Chris said, they are usually Remington 1100s, Winchester X2s, or most Benellies. Some of us use Saigas because open class allows box magazines.

And yes, 3gun shotgun is the funnest thing you can do while wearing pants. :)
