I had a worn 4" round butt model 10-8 police trade in that cost me about $275 if I remember correctly. I dropped it off at my gunsmith last year and had the barrel cut to 3", slab sided, dovetail front sight and a hammer installed. I was going to have it parkerized but it was taking too long so I said to throw some cold blue on it and I will have it hard chromed later...

I got it back last week. I decided to swap in some stainless parts from a model 64-3 parts kit I had. My version of a Pinto! Fun project-I might not get it hard chrome now. Time will tell.

That looks great. If I was to ever have a barrel cut down like that, I think I too would go for a slab sided barrel. Getting hard to find a gun decent enough to work with for a budget price. Have seen a few lately that were pretty darn rough, but they were priced like they were made of gold

Thanks everyone. The gunsmith is a good guy, local to Boise and only charged me $125. All in, I have about $420 into the gun, including the sight. I will look for cost effective ways to have a good finish on it. I'm still leaning towards Mahovsky's Metalife hard chrome. I have it on my Diamondback and like it a lot. I want to shoot the gun for a while first, to make sure I want to invest more into it. I do have the stainless model 64-5 to carry, so this might be a fun gun or keep in my sock drawer.

Most excellent. I like it the way it is.

Very nice. I really like the chop to 3", modern dovetail front sight and slab sided barrel. I have a few trade in K frames and thought many times that I want to do one of them identical to yours. Metalife hard chrome is going to make it perfect.

If you keep the stainless cylinder on it, cerakote, or similar paint coatings should work pretty well, it'll wear quickly on the cylinder though.

You could have it nitrided as well to keep that dark finish.

I really like the look of that.

Might have to have my 3" M65 done up similarly.

That is great looking revo.
Have had great luck with Metalife; produces a very durable, and handsome finish.
Those 64 action parts are factory hardchromed, and are great stuff.

it’s quite impossible (for me anyway) to find a decent gunsmith who does good work on revolvers for a decent price. does this boise gunsmith take in work from out of state revolver owners i wonder?
