3 New Guns (Pictures)

After recently completing USAF basic training and technical school, I rewarded myself with the purchase of 3 guns: Custom Ruger GP100 6", custom Smith & Wesson 686 4", and a homely Smith & Wesson 642.

I had the GP100 and 686 customized by Matt Almeda at RevolverArmorer.com. The following work was done on both guns: bead blasted finish, polished triggers and hammers, polished and chamfered cylinders, and lightened triggers.

As of now I only have a pic of the 642, but I'll post more pics when I have time

It's not as ugly as the 649 or the other "hunchback" J-Frames, but I prefer the look of an exposed hammer. Nevertheless, I see beauty in the practicality of the 642

Just curious as to the action on your 642? Is it heavy or medium? I found a new 442 non +P sometime ago and snatched her up as she was slick as a babys bottom. I traded her recentely for a like nib 4"hb model 64 that is wonderful. We chronographed the 4" with Buffalo Bore 125+P and 158+P. The 125 was going 1287fps and the 158 was almost 1200fps. Not bad for a .38. Please tell me you're not carrying silvertips in your 642.

The action on my 642 is heavy. I don't carry anything yet as I'm waiting on CCW paperwork to be processed.

What's wrong with Silvertips? They're 125 gr. by the way.

As promised, here's the 686. My 686 wears Goncalo Alves grips from Hogue.

Matt did an excellent job on the bead blasted finish, rounded and polished trigger, and lightening and smoothing the trigger on this 686. It has the best trigger I've ever felt on a double action revolver and I'm sure this gun will be my favorite on the range.

The GP100. I went with the factory Ruger grips instead of custom grips. They're comfortable and don't look bad either.

The polished trigger, hammer, and hammer pivot pin turned out nice.

For a single guy the pay isn't bad. I live on base so I don't pay a mortgage, electric bill, water bill, gas bill, cable bill, and so on.

My biggest expense is food and gas. DoD pays $279.88 per month for BAS and I eat around $400 to $500 worth of food and pay $100 to $150 in gas. The chow hall is cheap, but it gets old, and I can only eat there once per day because of the shift I work.

A married guy with a kid makes about $140 more than I do and I don't even want to think about how much it costs him to feed 3 people and 2 vehicles.
