Everyone had ask my source for 3 new primer factories that are being built.

Well here is the source, I keep up with 2A politics and gun industry news religiously. One of my main and most trusted source is Tom Gresham’s GunTalk. He’s a long time reloader, and 2A news source guy, before it was cool. He also has insider information and gives us easter eggs every now and then

He has mentioned new primer factories for the last 4-5 week in his radio show. I did the legwork for you people. he’s one example

Personally, I think it’s getting better every day. Many on THR have been successful in getting primers from MidwayUSA in the last 2 weeks. You couldn’t say that a month, or 6 months ago.

My last 6-7 primer searches have been successful. Sometimes I have to hit 3 different stores to get a brick, other times I score at all 3. And $39 a 1,000 is almost old prices.

So good I won’t pay HazMat on less than 8 lbs of powder or on primers anymore.

If that's true, the factories will probably come online just in time as everyone is getting caught up and retailers will be forced to run sales in order to move anything.

Several positive aspects to this, provided they are not under a Vista roof. That will make it harder for the wrong sort to corner the market on primers and ammo and get it removed from the market. More eggs.....and more important.....more baskets.

If they have told us once, they have told us 1,000 times......surplus primers to reloaders are a drop in the bucket compared to the amount used in making factory ammo. So if they go cheap.....won't matter to them.....it's a drop in the bucket. So whoever is building these must have designs on making ammo.....they are captive to the Big 4 surplus issue too.....and it would seem they are no longer willing to play 2nd fiddle......or be dependent on them for this one critical component.

That plus they claim there are an extra 8M to 10M new gun owners.......not all of them active, avid shooters, but enough that there may be a permanent, larger market for ammo of all sorts. The base manufacturing not big enough for the long haul. But that will take some time to sort out. Until then, if and when cheap ammo comes available again, I suspect there will be mountains of it stored in every nook and cranny folks can find. Not going through this ever again.

good write up on supply, demand, and monopoly!

I have hope that even more smaller and midsize ammo companies will join the primer factory craze and compete with the big boys!

The funny thing is that the people clamoring to buy primers at $.20 each will go back to sitting on the sidelines not buying and the people sitting a multi-year supply will be stocking up in anticipation of the next shortage.

I'm pretty sure the folks that own Remington now will be using their primers in their ammunition. More profit.

Could have got some this morning from Midway but I passed. 110 bucks for a brick with shipping ,hazmat and tax. I don't need them that bad and I'm good for awhile. As long as the big guys keep limits on them for awhile I think you will see things get a lot better...

Just wait a bit... with new factories cranking out primers and demand for ammo will slow and prices will drop like a bad something or other

Yea, $108 total..... tax, NRA roundup, $12.99 HAZMAT (not bad), for 1K CCI-450s. Only ones I was willing to pay for until things settle down. Gets me back up to 1400 of them, which should hold me (I hope) until things settle down. :)

That's over twice as much as I'm willing to pay. I'm real glad that I don't need them "yet".

I can't afford these prices right now - my employer just handed us an 8% pay cut, so over $100 for a 1000 primers is too rich for my blood. I'll shoot my BP revolver for a bit to see if things get better.

I have several pounds of the holy black and a bunch of caps, as well as lead and a mold, so I can make smoke for a while. :)

Sig would be an obvious candidate. They are building an ammo plant just a few miles away from the Remington plant in Arkansas. Fiocchi being another candidate, with an ammo plant a few hundred miles away in Ozark, MO.

Another candidate might be Black Hills Ammo? Or perhaps a cooperative venture between several of the smaller regional ammo makers like Fenix?

Also interesting to note how close to all these Arkansas outfits are to the Hodgdon operations in Kansas. The US Distribution center for Nammo group products (VV, SK, Lapua and Berger) just north of those in Sedalia, MO. Sierra bullet also in Sedalia. Hornady operations in Nebraska.

All finding or fleeing to safe haven in 2A friendly Midwest red states?

You will be buying them from the old sources before a new plant could be built, a production line put together and employees trained.

Heck you might be getting them before they can put together a SWPPP for just the dirt work....

They might help out on the next panic though, so I hope they continue construction once this one is over and demand subsidies.

If I ran hornady I would be real interested in making my own primers.

Think in these terms. Of the untold millions of primers, ammunition and guns that have gone into some ones stash, private citizen or business looking to make a profit, how many are going to be dumped back in the market once supply meets demand. We just might windup in a surplus situation not only in components but ammunition and guns as well.
