I have been wanting to look at one of these since they were released last year, well me and my son went to the shop to look at a pistol he was interested in awhile ago and while there I saw this and was looking at it while he was looking at the one he was interested in, after a couple of minutes he walked over beside me and I handed him this little 856 he looks at it for just a second and snatches out his debit card and ask for paperwork little turd bought it out from in under me while I was thinking about it ,,,,I'm stealing it ever chance I get, love the way it feels in hand. I'm going to have to get my own eventually but I will take his every chance I can until then lol the VZ grip is very hand filling and will be fine in an OWB holster it also comes with the 2 finger boot grip in the box not bad for $430 after taxes , he had to go to work and I promised not to shoot it until he gets a chance so y'all will have to wait until tomorrow for a range report

That’s one I would consider if I were in the 38 market. Heck I would sell a couple if I knew I would get a nice one. I don’t really care for the VZ grip though, it looks too busy with the lines cut into it. I’m sure it’s nice and grippy though.
I went to a gun store yesterday in search of one of these Defenders. I was too late. Anyway, that one is in my list. They did have a 2” 856, but I was really hoping for the 3” model. Let us know how your son’s 856 shoots.
Now if he was a Good Son, he would give it to you as a present! Seriously, I like everything about how it looks except for that grip. That is easy enough to fix, tho!
I’m looking for the hammerless edition...looks similar to the SW 642. If anyone sees one please let me know ASAP! Thanks.
They do make a hammerless 2 inch model, steel frame & aluminum frame My suggestion is check KYGUNCO.. I have saw a few in stock here and there ... but it seems they get more in than most dealers
Does Taurus actually make a *true* Centennial type snub, with a genuinely enclosed hammer, or do they just bob the hammer and call it concealed ?
"Does Taurus actually make a *true* Centennial type snub, with a genuinely enclosed hammer, or do they just bob the hammer and call it concealed?" I owned a Model 85 like that. The frame was designed to be hammerless, like a comparable S&W. I sold it because the trigger was horribly stiff, but it went bang every time.
Taurus knocked it out of the ballpark with the 856... Its basically the size of a Charter Bulldog size & Colt D frame ..
If Ruger got off their posteriors and made a 6-shot SP101 they could have captured a chunk of the market Taurus now has. Heck, S&W should have done the same thing. I do wonder who's running these companies. It sure isn't shooters or gun carriers. Dave
Charter has had a 6 shot 38spl on the same frame size for years .... and they now are making one with a aluminum frame Charter Police Undercover 6 shot 38spl steel frame 17.5 oz
