$3 upgrade to a Hornady L-N-L AP press ... sort of.

Back to Redding powder measure, I also have modified a Redding 10-X for use with the Hornady case activated powder system. Everything that I load whose powder charges are within the range of the Redding, I use the Redding.

Right now, I use an RCBS Uniflow on the Hornady for larger charges. I can use both the Redding and RCBS measures on my Pro2000. I have a Hornady quick change powder die set up on the Pro2000.

I do not use the Hornady measure much any more. I like the operation of the other measures better.

MCMXI, the handle looks good.

Gtscotty, perhaps it's just a case of tolerance stacking. I need to have the sizing die positioned as shown to properly size cases. As you can see, there's not enough thread for a lock nut. I checked the shellplate and it's a #8.

cfullgraf, I use the BR-30 for .357 Mag, .44 Mag, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, .223 Rem and .300 BLK. I use the 10X for 9mm and .45 ACP.

Thanks re the handle.... it works great. :)

I just shot 10 rounds of 147gr 9mm through the P320 and 20 rounds through the MPX, both suppressed and had zero issues. Adjusting the sizing die down so that all cases drop in/out of the Wilson gauge clearly helped. Velocity with 4.3gr of WSF is around 1,030 fps from the 8" barreled MPX and 990 fps from the 4.6" barreled P320. I was shooting an IPSC sized steel target at 50 yards and have the MPX iron sights close now.

My apologies for taking this thread way off on a tangent. The handle works great and now it looks like I'm back to turning out decent ammunition.

Gtscotty, I use a number of Lee dies too but Lee should use longer threads on their dies similar to RCBS and Redding. I've never needed shims or spacers with other dies.

If I set up the Lee 9mm sizing die on my LNL like you've shown, sized cases won't drop in and out of the Wilson gauge. I'm able to size cases without a lock nut on the die but it's not ideal. I tried Walkalong's suggestion re allowing the nut to act as a stop with a shim and it works but it's too micky mouse for my liking. No insult intended to anyone, I just like things to be right or put another way, I don't like workarounds. Just my personal preference.

I'm going to try to find the RCBS sizing die from the set that I have and if I can't find it I'll buy a replacement.

I use a Lee 9 mm U die on my LNL with the Lee lock nut and have had no issues. Don't know if its a bit different in length from a regular Lee 9mm sizer but it works for me and they all drop in a Wilson gauge.

I understand, and RCBS is often the solution to die problems, but I like the long tapered carbide insert in the old Lee sizer. It really does a good job. :)

I'm most likely going to order the Lee undersized die since I'll be loading for a 9mm machine gun and I don't want to be fighting any chambering issues. Maybe I'll order the regular resizing die and the undersized die using the former for pistol loads and the latter for the MPX. I have to wonder why the standard die is more expensive than the undersized die ... weird.

I wonder if they still make it with the long tapered carbide insert? Short of that, I could just use my Redding (It was supposed to be easier to size with with their special carbide. Not. :)). It works just fine, but leaves a "shoulder" near the base because of the tapered case vs a non tapered carbide insert. Cosmetic only I imagine.

Machine gun hot damn. Course I live just North across the border so even the mention of those words cause the antis up here to wet themselves. Though I do remember the days some could have them.

Reeferman, thanks for you help in the other thread about Lee dies and LNL presses. Clearly I haven't bought a Lee carbide sizing die in a while since I have a version that's at least seven years old and possibly older than that. Here's my die position relative to the bushing when it's adjusted correctly. As you show in the other thread, the older dies are considerably shorter and have far fewer threads than the newer dies which makes it difficult if not impossible to get a lock nut on the die. I'll be ordering the U die today.

No problem MCMXI. Where in Montana are you at? I've spent a lot of time down south in the Western States.

I'm in the Whitefish/Kalispell area in the Flathead Valley about an hour south of the US-Canadian border .... paradise for short! :D

Yup it sure is. Lots of ski bunnies in the winter. My brother in law talks about getting drunk with Elmer Kieth in Kalispell many years ago. Wife and I have gone down that area a lot over the years but haven't the last couple due to our dollar which is about par with the peso these days.

I also wanted to ask how/what did you make the case catch holder and bullet tray holder out of? That looks pretty slick.
