300 PRC or 30 Nosler

Different cartridges for different times and rolls I think.

If I wanted a hunting rifle in something 30cal, with the absolute most maximum point blank range while still being factory available the 300 rum or the 30-378 weatherby would probably be the options I'd be looking at..... Perhaps 120 to 150gr mono metal launched at plaid?
When both of those rounds were developed they were really meant for hunters and shooters without an easy way to measure distance to target. I still know a lot of guys that like those bigger rounds simply because they can hold "about there" and expect to make a hit At anything from 0 to over 300 yd, and the ones that a comfortable with giving a little light between the crosshairs and target, can often make hits a lot farther than that.

@Goosey does a good job of explaining the differences, and those little nuances give a cartridges an identity and usage beyond just being a fast 30. Making hits with those long sleek bullets is actually easier at ranges outside of maximum point blank, and a slightly shorter and fatter cases seem to deliver lower but more consistent velocities.
Now they're pretty much all of us carry away to judge range accurately, The other factors of the delivering an accurate shot at distance become more important.

The biggest benefit of the PRC is keeping the super long projectile out of the powder column and still being able to feed from a magazine. It doesn't burn as much powder either. I can match or exceed the 300 RUM with 225 ELD-M with nearly 10 grains less powder according to the Hornady 10th Edition.

Im going thru the same thought process with my buddy on his 300prc project right now. Hes looking at the 7-35 VX-5hd right now....Mil discount is significant.....

Ive only used a vx-5hd a couple times but for the most part I've been impressed. Im not sure what he'll end up going with but since he's sticking it on a Bergara Highlander I think it would be a good match. I think his other likely option is a Tract.
