First 30 cal. I have owned. 20” 1 in 10 twist barrel... Recommendations for hogs to 300 yds. Thanks for your time.

No experience on hogs, but I've taken a lot of large whitetail at .308 speeds with various 150 grain plain old soft points. I'm partial to the Speer Hot Core, but most any of them are well made and will do the job. I stick to the flat based ones in 150 grain as they seem to hold up better on tough hits. They're easy to find a load for. 4895, 4064 or Varget, if one of those doesn't work, you have a problem. Some of the premiums in 150 such as the Accubond should do nicely also. I really like the Speer GS for short to medium range, but the BC is rather low for 300 yards with a .308. If you want to step up to a higher BC, the Nosler 165 BT or Hornady 165BTSP would be a fine choice. The heavier bullets seem to hold up well in BT configuration. Run the numbers through a ballistics calculator. If the 150SP will work for you, go with that. Cheap to shoot for lots of practice. I've taken deer to 400 yards with them, just need a little dope past 250.

Stuff a 168 A-max in a case with 4985, AA2495, or Varget working up to max loads and light it with a Winchester primer and you will have a good time. 308 Win is very easy to load for, go up in half grain increments and you will find a load that shoots very well. For my 20" Rem I used 43.5 gr of 2495 and got 2650fps with half inch 10 shot groups at 100 yards, 4 inch groups at 500 yards. My 24" Rem gets 2700fps with 43.5gr of Varget and similar groups as the aforementioned A-max load but with the 178 ELD-X. If you can't kill it with a 308, it probably doesn't need killing.

I actually have two loads for my 20" 308Win. First is 165gr SGK over 44grs of RL15. The second is 180gr Hornady SST over 42grs of RL15. Both ard very accurate.

The 10 twist works well with any 150-220 gr bullet. Hogs at 300 don't require anything special. There are lots of good choices, but any 165/168 gr bullet that shoots well in your rifle is pretty versatile. In no particular order some bullets that shoot well in my 308

Nosler 165 gr Accubond
Hornady 165 Interlock
Berger 168
Scenar 155
Hornady 178 ELD-X

I'd use any of those on deer, bear, hog or even elk out to 400 yards.

Appreciate everyone that took the time to respond. Your input has been very helpful.

I have had great results on deer with Nosler ballistic tip 150 grain. They fly straight and go straight through deer.
I don't know how they would do on a pig. Shoot one and tell us if they work.
