Hi guys,

I am just getting into reloading. Good timing huh? Anyways, can I use the same primers for .308 and 7.62x39? If so is there a "best" primer for this job?

I have a million other dumb questions but I'll spare you. Thanks a lot,

Dan

Yes, they both use Lg Rifle size primers.

Right now, any brand you can find for sale is probably the best one to get.

Much of the foreign 7.62x39 is steel case & Berdan primed.

Make sure yours isn't.

Depends on the 7.62 x 39 brass. Have a bunch of R/P brass and imported brass with small primer pockets. Winchester brass is large primer. These are all boxer primed.

Thanks. I haven't checked yet but I am assuming Hotshot ammo is steel cased eh? How can I tell if it is berdan primed? The primers are red.

Look down inside.
One hole=Boxer primed reloadable
Two holes= Berdan primed not practical to reload

The colloring is more than likely a sealant.

Oh, I get it now. Thanks jcwit.

I was just talking to a guy about why he couldn't reload his 7.62x54 because it has two holes. I never new that was what berdan primed meant.
