My local caster finally delivered the 500 powder coated .327 FM/.314 dia. 120gr LRNFP I ordered a little while back. I have a lot of data on this same bullet but with gas check and Alox lubed. This would be the first time working with them powder coated minus the GC.

Decided to use some CCI Small Rifle Primers after reading a number of articles discussing their use in this cartridge.

Hand trickled #9 for everything:

I used a 4 inch Ruger GP100 and Henry rifle as the test platforms. Sadly, it was only after I showed up at the range that I realized I didn't bring the Chrony tripod. I had to set it on the end of the shooting bench and as such I was concentrating more on backing away from the Chrony than on accuracy on the paper. I only had 2, maybe 3 error readings.

Was set up at 25 yards. For what it's worth there was no keyholing at that distance.

With the GP100 I was able to squeeze out 1,378 FPS for an average out of a 4 inch barrel. This is very close to what B. Pierce achieved using a 130 gr lead Keith SWC out of a Single 7 with a 7.5 inch tube. He was able to get to 1,424 FPS using a .312/.313 dia slug. I'll be using that same gun at the bench next time to see what I'm able to clock. I'm guessing I'll be right there.

NONE had any hint of sticking. Primer flattening was noticeable but no more so than what I see in factory loaded 100gr JSP AE rounds.

For the Henry I topped out at 1,866 FPS. No hint of sticking and the primers showed mild flattening. I'm betting there's more FPS to be gained here.

After the range I had time only to clean the GP100. I was curious about leading. I ran the Lewis Lead Remover through the cylinder, paid particular attention to the forcing cone and then gave the barrel a few whacks with it. The results were impressive. Almost NO leading. What was there might have been there from a previous shooting session it was so minimal. Will be interesting to see what the Henry shows.

Addendum to my original post: Just ran three new brass mesh discs through the Henry Rifle with the Lewis Lead Remover. Zero leading. Pretty solid results for a powder coated lead slug moving at 1,866 FPS.

Don’t know what he sources his lead from. Mix is 97% lead and 3% Antimony. Not knowing everything involved at his end I’m thinking anything from around 9-13 BH and maybe even a little higher.
