it would have if winchester actually used the 223 rem as a parent case. and they really made it look better then it is with the worst loads in the cartridges they compared it to.

Almost as good as ye olde 30-30 and 35 Rem. Better, if you live in a straight wall cartridge only deer state. Probably a treat on hogs. Manufacturers ALWAYS lie about velocity. 150 grs at 2350 fps probably means 2150- 2200 fps in an 18" barrel.
150 grs 35 cal bullets don't offer great BC or Sectional Density. I think the 300 HAMR is probably better because of that, but Win marketing support may win out.

i want a case based of the 30-06 in 458 like the 45 raptor but shorter for the ar-15 and that used 458s not 452s. and cheap barrels. it would be cheap to make and easy to.
You'd need to use the larger extension and modified upper to better the .450 or .458 running the straight case.
Sub 200 yard deer killing, how important is the BC/SD difference?

About as long as a piece of string. But a 150 cal 308 will be better at both and weigh the same...

I agree they screwed the pooch by not using 223 brass, they certainly didn't gain much over 357AR MAX at the cost of proprietary brass.

357 ar max doesn't use 223 brass either unless you make a mandrel to take the body taper out or fireform.

It is based on the same brass though, before they neck down to a 223 case it is the same. I wonder if the larger body was a consideration for saami certification to make sure a 223 couldn't be loaded in a 350 legend?

Doubtful. You can load .300blk into a .223/5.56 chamber, and that can kaboom a gun. It's just my theory but a .223 in a .350 chamber wouldn't seem too dangerous. .223 might be higher pressure but there'd be plenty of room for the excess pressure to escape with hurting the gun or shooter.
Again, that's just my theory.
It sounds like an interesting cartridge but it's not something I would consider. If it didn't require special brass I'd be interested, or if I had to deal with straight wall restrictions for hunting.

So what? If you can't easily convert 223 brass then why do you want to use it as a parent? I know starline sells 223 basic brass, but you can also just buy finished 350 legend brass, so what does it save you?

Because this exists https://www.starlinebrass.com/brass-cases/223-Basic/ but at that point .357maxAR might be the better option. Using .223 as a parent would mean using a standard (cheap and easy to find) bolt.

Again, if you have to buy new brass for both, then whats the difference? The 350 legend has a rebated rim so it uses a regular 223 bolt.

Legends use .351", 352" bullets in factory loads too, but the chambers/bbls are throated so you can reload .357's too.

According to Winchester they use .357 bullets. Are you confusing this with the .351?
According to SAAMI bore/groove is 0.346"/0.355", just like the 9mm Luger.
SAAMI puts most 35-cal rifle rounds at 0.349"/0.357" or 0.350"/0.358".

Just that you CAN make it if you have to is all, and 223 is free brass at most ranges. I pick up a few hundred every time i go shooting that I didn't come with. Just like the 35 whelen I made from 30-06 last night, it's nice to have options. And 223 basic is more likely to be around if the legend gets dropped in a few years. Again, not a huge issue, but one more thing to think about.

the 350L case is like 10 or 12 thow bigger in the head then 223/55.6
