https://www.uncoiledfirearms.com/ had 4 boxes .38 Special and 3 boxes .357 magnum in stock when I was there this am.
You can find plenty of it online. https://ammoseek.com/ammo/38-special https://ammoseek.com/ammo/38-special?ikw=Hollow%20point%20
I was fortunate recently to run into some premium.38 ammo at a decent price. Remington 125 grain +p Golden Sabers for a fair price. 250 rounds for $170 plus shipping. I consider these to be excellent rounds for the two and three inch revolvers I carry. I also came across some Winchester Ranger T .357 mag for a very good price. They were police trade-in rounds but the boxes had never been opened and the ammo is pristine. so there are some decent prices if you are persistent and lucky.
From the extreme overstock present on dealer shelves, the manufacturers are sure PRODUCING lots of 9mm, whether it's SELLING in a similar volume is open to great debate. It's August of 2022, NOT 2020, and the climate has shifted pretty drastically.
I've been handloading for decades and folks still tell me I ain't right. In today's market, I've found that .38 ammo is easier to find than the SP primers needed to "roll my own". Now that ain't right.
I always hand load. I put the cartridges in the chambers of the revolver every time I shoot. I believe that is a form of hand loading.
I have not tried speed loaders, but have used speed strips. As for hand loading cartridges, it seems like a very involved process and could be quite a lot of fun, but it is not something I have found to interest me to the point of actually pursuing it. Perhaps someday I'll get the bug for it.
Guess I need this Charter Arms .380 Revolver that does not use moon clips. Instead, the "extractor plate has a small individual spring-loaded metal extractor that protrudes into each chamber and locks in under the “rimless rim” of the .380 ACP round": https://www.shootingillustrated.com/content/review-charter-arms-pit-bull-380/
Where I am there is Dunhams, a couple pawnshops and somewhere over a half dozens gun shops. Sure there is walmart. They carry 12 and 20 GA. 22lr and a rifle round or two. That's it. Dunhams is high.. Pawn shops are high. We may save a few bucks on ammo on the internet but then have to turn around and pay that and more for shipping. Oh, yeah. Gun shops are high too. But this is America 2022. Where only the working man gets " you know what".
Last week one LGS had a pallet of 1000-round boxes of 9mm for $300 a box. Went in today, it is gone! I buy from LGS if I just got a gun and at least want some ammo in hand. Or I will buy from one LGS because it is my favorite and they had decent prices. Otherwise, I buy online, mostly from Calvary Ammunition because they have great service, prices are pretty good, and made in the U.S. of A.
Cheaper than dirt has gobs of 38+p and .357, just saw it tonight. Locally my Big 5 sports gets a shipment of everything every two weeks on tuesday. Just grabbed 4 boxes of 45 LC FMJ FN. They had six boxes but i left two for someone else.
