I was out patrolling today. More than hunting. Having trouble with trespassers and road hunters. I have a mount on the front of the 4-wheeler but the rifle tends to fall out. Mostly because my GSR is kind of short. What are others using?

They've been making better rifle mounts than that for over 20 years. Bet that does fall out.
Next what are you going to do with that thing " patroling" besides start a fight. Hidden hand gun is the sensible option.
You asked.

Of course I have a hidden handgun. What am I to do when I see a deer? I like the mount for ladders, shovels and other things. I do have a chain saw scabbard. Wasn’t looking for people, looking for tracks and activity. Last week found a spotters flag for a bow or whatever you call them. The week before a corn feeder.

Looks like you just need to move the mounts closer. If you wanted to use the mounting points you have now, you just need to bolt something to both of them and have your mounts come off that. Not unlike this mount I made that used holes in the factory roll bar for a soft top.

I have racks like yours on a 4 wheeler but don't use them much. On the mule I bolted a hard case behind me. Keeps the rifle/shotgun dry, clean and safe from branches.

They make similar stuff for 4 wheelers.

Thanks @jmorris, they are too far apart. Forced by the LinQ system that Cam-Am uses. I got the 4-wheeler, a cart and a snowplow. Speeds up my chores on the land. With input from others and my own quirkyness, I'll figure out a solution. I do want the rack in the front so I can keep an eye on it.

Took me a minute to find a photo of the one I have but they also make them were they will clamp to the bars of the front rack.

Still looks like that would be too far apart on your machine though.

Both of yours are way closer than mine. I'll figure out a way to make them closer. Seems like the best solution. In a couple weeks I will move the 4-wheel from my barn to the house (its an hour away) and work on the solution during the winter months.

Why would you need to carry concealed on your own property? Starting a fight? Again, on your own property?

No fights. No concealment. Open carry. I like to walk or drive by all the likely hunting spots on the property. 4-wheeler or tractor. On the 4-wheeler I put the Pistol in the storage bin. The P227 fits perfectly. Just like someone carrying daily, cause you never know who you’re going to meet. Or see. Pesky coyotes for example. Been walking the land since I was a child. Carried on the property from the time I was old enough to carry.

Mount is also too wide for the chainsaw too (big saw). Got a side mount for it. One on the tractor too. My thoughts so far was to get two linQ bases and use something to connect the two sides. Then put ‘bolt on“ mounts to it. Don’t want something too permanent mounted to the rack front or rear. A winter project. Had the 4-wheeler for a year and it has earned its keep.

I do it for the same reason I keep the enclosed case on that mule.

See all of the dust in the "open" rifle holder circled?

That gets all over the firearm too. Easier to wash my clothes than clean a gritty gun.

I see all the dust. Yes they do get dirty. And then saw dust from the saws. Water and snow too. Good things to consider. Dirt and a nice rifle not the best combo. My dad always carried a handy rifle in .223 Everywhere plus his 686. Sometimes it can be to shoot off a few rounds just for fun at a stump in the woods. Never shoot a tree, too valuable.

Another happy Kolpin case user adapted to open vehicles thirty years of using it. No dust, dirt or snow in shooting parts of gun .Completely sealed and locked with end piece slipped on . Plenty of good mounting options available.

I understand that but the post I quoted was concealing it from people. Personally, if I encounter a trespasser, I want to come in heavy. A little crazy (real or perceived) goes a long way. ;)

PS , the days of shooting dastardly trespassers is long gone. Little crazy
