.41 Mag Association

Late arrival to this club, but not to the glorious .41 Magnum! My beautiful Model 57 no-dashes (both 8 3/8", one nickel and the other blued) are two of my very favorite guns to shoot. Looking to add a few more in different barrel lengths and finishes. Haven't yet taken any pictures of them, unfortunately.

Bump for pics

SB, I know man, I know... I've never reloaded anything. I never wanted to start because I'm that special kind of moron who, if I do start reloading, I'll reload EVERYTHING and, cast my own lead, and find some way to manufacture my own powder and it will be a huge problem :), but if I want to shoot this gun it may be inevitable. Well see.

Finally bought a .41 Mag, I've been thinking it over for a while now but now I got one, picked up a 6.5" Blackhawk and slipped on an older set of Lett grips I've had laying around for years.

re Georgia Arms link

Shipping was 15 box for 4 boxes... 115 for 200 rds... I can play at that price.

800 fps is not a true Magnum load. It woud have to be a specialized bullet to really withstand a serious 41 Magnum loading. Neverthelss, those would be fun to shoot. You will not yet have experienced the 41 Magnum though. That gun is big enough to support the real deal.

If I were looking at picking up ammo from Georgia Arms I might check with them to see if they would email me when they get either of those 210 loads in stock again. To be honest that really isn't a BAD price for 50 loaded rounds. Most places want that much for 20.

I can tell you that the one if it is the XTP will do just about anything you want to accomplish with it if they shoot well. From the years I have been playing with 41's, that velocity range, if you get it from your revolver, just seems like a magic number for them. Also if you choose that Speer load you will not be short changing yourself either. I would certainly try to pick up at least a box of each to try out.

Welcome to the clan of the .41 xxjumbojimboxx and SDGlock23.
xx those are some mighty big ports on that 57, any idea on how and who did the porting?
Sweet looking grips on the Blackhawk SDGlock23.

Here's one I put on a weight loss program.
It started as a full under lug 7 1/2" barrel, unfluted cylinder 657-4 that I had chopped to 5 1/2" and trimmed the fat off the sides and bottom. I also swapped the unfluted stainless steel cylinder for a fluted titanium cylinder. The result is a nicely balanced 41 oz. vs. the front heavy 54 oz. of the original.

Nothing wrong with it, I'm just used to seeing the narrow slits Mag-na-port does is all. With those ports and the 8 3/8" barrel I would think muzzle rise with the heaviest magnum loads would be minimal.

Here are different styles of factory ports on some of my 657s.

I like the last one! you could grate cheese with it in a pinch if ya needed. ;)

So I took my 57 to the range on Saturday... I have to be honest. I didnt really like it. And it wasn't the loads. It was the darn scope. Shooting that thing is a whole other ballgame all together. I picked it up BECAUSE it had the scope on it. I'm way more accurate with irons. I was shooting it at 30 yards and couldn't hit a clay bird. I got frustrated and pulled out my 2.25 inch sp101 and hit it on the third shot. Maybe I'll sell the scope (as it turns out they're not super cheap) and try the gun without it... But at that point I don't think I have any use for the .41... So I may end up selling that too.. Can anyone offer any advice on shooting a scoped pistol more accurately?

Same problem here. The scope just highlights how unsteady your aim really is. You should practice that for awhile before giving up. It's good practice.

Shot the Blackhawk .41 I bought (post #660) for the first time last week. I still have reloading components on the way but found the 210gr Remington JSP online for $32/50and they shot great! (except the factory plastic grips are HORRIBLE!) Just about one ragged hole, even if was only about 10yds but I'm impressed. Somewhat spicey too, they clocked an average of almost 1,400 fps over my Beta Master Chrony.

Welcome to world of .41 Magnum gotboostvr.

SDGlock23 toss those cheese grater plastic grips in the back of a drawer you seldom open and shoot the Blackhawk with those pretty Lett grips.
