.41 Mag Association

I have one .41 Magnum firearm, a six inch blued Model 57. The nice thing about shooting what some folks consider an "oddball" cartridge is that occasionally deals can be had when stores want to clear out slow moving inventory. I've picked up a set of dies and some factory brass at good prices.

A couple of years ago my club held quarterly Wild Bunch Action Shooting matches. That game requires a pistol caliber lever action rifle of at least .40 caliber. A friend sent me a link to a Gunbroker auction of a Marlin 1894 Cowboy in .41 Magnum that appeared to be in excellent condition. It was not a good time for me to buy but I watched the gun sell for about $1300 which was less than I expected. Wish now that I had bought it.

The other .41 that looks good to me is the Ruger Bisley Blackhawk with a 6.5" barrel that was made a few years back. I've seen several in auctions but they were a little too dear. A friend had the same model in .45 Colt and it was a good shooter. He later found and bought one in .41 Magnum and likes it even better. I am too polite to tell him "I told you so".

Some nice additions to The Cult...!

The 5.5" Redhawk is a super strong revolver. Had one a LONG time ago but ended up selling it. Kinda regretted it and when the 4.2" guns came out ordered one immediately.

Spend one of my last casting session days making up some MP hollow base (or point depending on your point of view) wadcutters. My first attempt last year was so miscible I just put the mold away and didn't try again. Had made up all the bullets I wanted to in other molds so figured I'd give it one more try. By preheating the mold on an electric hot plate it started dropping bullets by the 5th cast.

I bought some of these bullets when Matt's Bullets was marketing them in several calibers, but he has since dropped them. When the hit something they explode..but the base keeps on going..

Going to slow them down to 1000 fps from a 4" and see how they do...

4 5/8 magna ported blackhawk is my favorite woods walking companion. Penn 295 gr or Speer 220 fill the cylinder. Purchased 1st 41 in late 70's and still have my Contender, and 6 1/2 " Blackhawk. 20170405_224451(0).jpg

Haven't bought any 41 mags lately..well not too lately. But I have purchased a couple of S&W 29s. One a dash 2 the other a dash 5 and a 686 2 1/2 inch and another 4 inch. I am shortly going to sell a couple of 41 mags a 6 1/2 inch Blackhawk and one of my Marlin 1894s in 41 mag. Just can't see much reason for having 6 41s. Gonna take 'em both to a gun show this weekend.. I did get to buy 400 once fired 41 mag cases as well as 700 once fired 44 special cases..yippee!!

Can't see much reason to have 6 41 magnums? Now I've heard everything. You might want to sell the Marlin to someone on this forum, I promise you the goobers at the gun show won't give you half of what it's worth. I would bet one of the forum posters would make it worth your while and "keep it in the family"

Bought two model 57s; a 4" factory nickel and a 6" blued, in the late 70s. Traded them off years later with much remorse some time after.

6 really is overkill. I sold two 57s to a friend a 6 inch Nickle and a 4 inch blued one and gave my daughter a 4 inch blue 57. @ weekends ago I came really close to buying a M-58..but started thinking..and decided I really didn't NEED it(and the price was right at my max) so I let it stay A 58 is the only gun I regret not buying in the past. Fellow offered me a first year in the box for 225 bucks and I said no.. I already had a 57. As far as the Marlin..If I can get 1100 for it at the show it is gone gone gone. Not having to ship etc is a big factor right now. And after what I have bought I need the money. I try to keep my expenditures down to a reasonable level...if you know what I mean.

Well I didn't sell the 1894 at the show...but I did happen to acquire a really nice 58. I will post a pic or two tomorrow. I also got a decent model 19-4 4 inch

41 Mag1.jpg 41 mag3.jpg OK I'm in, the first handgun I ever owned, a 4 5/8" Blackhawk bought at a yard sale in 1975 New in the box for $100, it's been by my side on every hunting trip since, forgive the wear. One of the original grips cracked about 12 years ago, so I replaced them with Rosewood, They have held up quite well.
Currently carries 210 gr Nosler HP with 13.5 gr of Blue Dot.

When I taught CHL classes years ago one old gent used a 657 Lew Horton 3 inch .41 to qualify with. I offed him my Glock 19 to use but he said all he desired to carry was wheelguns. He used 175 grain Silvertips to qualify with. Perfect score.

He let me shoot it some to. And now I have a hanker for a 3 inch 657!

The new revolver companion from Henry Repeating Arms is here.
I just finished installing and adjusting the Skinner sights.
This Big Boy H006M41 has a much better trigger than my Big Boy Steel H012M41.

Are those brass plated steel frames - or solid brass?
