Looking at a 44-40 Vaquero. I'm getting the impression that the barrels run .430 in these... is this the case? If so, can I load a 240g LSWC? I'll be running very modest loads. If the bullets run smaller, can I swage them to the right size and still load 240g LSWCs?

Also, anyone have a good lead for brass on 44-40?

Thanks all,
Pat

Pat:
If you slug your barrel and a barrel from an OM Vaquero you would discover the same bore diameter in both. Ruger used the same barrel in both calibers and I have verified this myself with my 44-40 and 44 mag Vaquero's. My suggestion to you would be to stick with 200 gr bullets in your 44-40. The 240gr would possibly work but may split your smaller case upon seating and there is no loading information available for the 240 gr bullet. Be safe and stick with the data avaible or do what I have done and find a 44 mag cylinder and fitted to your 44-40 Vaquero. :)

Starline .44-40 Brass is good and available from Starline on the web. I just got 500 for less than $100.
