Does anyone know where I could find muzzle velocity and energy for various factory 44 mag cartridges fired from a 16 to 20 inch rifle barrel? All I can seem to find is handgun data.

    Thanks, Skippy

    Sierra's published data is from a 16" M94

    Max loads are:

    180 gr./2,000 FPS/1,598 ft.lbs.
    210 gr./1,900 FPS/1,638 ft.lbs.
    220 gr./1,850 FPS/1,672 ft.lbs.
    240 gr./1,750 FPS/1,632 ft.lbs.
    300 gr./1,450 FPS/1,402 ft.lbs.

Buffalo bore ammo and heavy handloads will significantly exceed those numbers, esp. in a 20" Win or Marlin 94. We're talking 2,200 ft/lbs.

I shot a box of American Eagle (Federal) 240 grain JHP a few years back...

I chronographed them out of a Marlin 1894S at an average 1,750 FPS...

Figure on 300-400fps over revolver velocities. Even with moderate loads.
