I really don't see anything to be gained by putting a pointed bullet in a .44 mag. I think the standard flat nosed ammo is excellent for it's intended use.

True. I'm good to 120 easy with my little Ruger Carbine with Winchester 250 PTHPs
 
Hornady's ballistics info, 1410fps at the muzzle and 1111fps at 100 yards, when run through the Oehler Ballistic Explorer ballistic coefficient calculator, yield a B.C. of 0.139. Quite a few bullets in the Oehler Bullet Library exceed that, some by quite a bit. The LEVERevolution® does not seem much of a much in comparison.

Not sure what all that means but will it kill a deer at 200?
 
I'm wondering about the longer range capability as well, as in, how do the ballistics of the Leverevolution round compare to some of the offerings from Buffalo Bore out past 100 yards in terms of energy and accuracy (from a rifle)?
 
The .357 looks even more promising to me. Now I'd like it if they came out with a .45 colt LE load.
 
Read the Hornady web site about these rounds. What they say about the tip helping with expansion is interesting. Basically saying the tip not only aids expansion but prevents the hollow point from becoming clogged, ensuring expansion. Similar to Pow R' Ball. Makes me wonder if we might see this trend continue with tipped handgun rounds, maybe even in autoloaders. Obviously there is already pow r ball but maybe we will see something with a sharper point to give better BC and maybe heavier bullets than what we've seen with Pow R Ball.
 
from what I understand the typical flat nose on these cartridges(.44 and .357) is the main factor that limits their effective range (wind resistance...however, I could be mistaken) . I think its great that they came out with this stuff (if it works like it is supposed too) especially for people who want to hunt with their tube fed lever/pump pistol caliber carbine, like myself.

I'm also interested to see what people who have used this ammo think of it.
 
I've heard good things about their Lever Evolution offering in .30-30. Some claim that the accurate range of the cartridge goes from around 150-200 yards to closer to 250 or even 300 yards. I've never tried it, but once I get my Marlin 336 you can bet that I will. If it works for .30-30, I would think that it would work for .44 mag and .357 mag also, at least in principle. I certainly hope so anyway; it would be great if my 1894c could reach out to 150 yards.
 
I have fired this ammo from a .450 Marlin. The number one benefit is being able to have pointed ammo in a tube mag. The number two benefit is that Hornady knows how to make a bullet expand with that polymer tip.

I can not wait to get my hands on the .357 ammo because it will be my carry ammo. The bullet expands reliably at a great variation in speed.

I have some for my 45/70 that I got on sale for cheap at Gander Mt. But I won't get to try it until this fall if I decide to take my 45 70 out for a hunt instead of my 30 06.
 
Well Hornady has done it, released flex tip bullets for reloading, a .380 round with a flat flex tip and .45 Colt leverevolution ammo. Can't wait to try it out.
 
Only experience is with the 30-30 stuff. Significantly improved accuracy and worked excellent on a cow elk that my son shot with a Win 94. The bullet passed through the vitals, penetrated almost completely through, was found under the hide on the the opposite side and expanded perfectly. I plan on experimenting with a box of the 44mag stuff in a Marlin for his upcoming javalina hunt.
 
I have been shooting a Marlin 1894 .44 mag with iron sites for a little over 30 years. I consider it a great brush gun and at 150 yards it is very accurate. Above 150 yards the standard blunt nose bullets begin to wander a bit. The drop can be dealt with but the wandering prevents me from trying to kill game any further out. I tried the Hornaday .44 mag Leverlution and the shape absolutely stabilizes the bullet against the buffeting that causes flat nose bullets to wander. I find it reliable for shooting accurately at 200 yards and I can't see any farther than that anyway.

.44 mag ammo will go a long ways out there but it was not made to be a 300 yard gun. However, I've seen some fine shooters hitting targets at 300 to 400 yards using a tang site.

I've shot the stuff in a 45/70 and have compared it with the winchester rounds, the leverution is pretty accurate (MOA or better at 100yds using buckhorns), could shoot quite that well with the winchesters

However, my marlin is more likely to hang up with these rounds, may not be a problem in other calibers
 
I have shot the Lever-revolution Hornady rounds through my lever action Winchester .30-30 and my Marlin .45-70 with excellent results---30-30 moreso than the Govm't. I'm really interested in the performance of this ammunition, so look forward to a range/hunt report.
