Hi guys,
I'm looking for a load for a 44 Special for target shooting. I would like to use 231 powder for this.
Anyone have any recipes that have worked good for them with this?
I've looked around a found a little but I figured maybe someone has worked up a nice soft shooting target round for this.
Thanks.
:)

I load 5.6 gr of 231 under a 240 gr plated flat point, 1.58 AOL (.44 mag case), light crimp. You may be able to go a bit lighter but that seems to be the most accurate for my gun (SW 29 4" bbl).

"Use these loads at yor own risk - they were safe in my pistol with my loading procedure - Start under and work up!! Always follow load book recomended powder charges!!"

4.7 Grs. 700X outshot Solo1000, W231, AA#2 & Unique for me and my 3" Charter Arms Bulldog with 240 Gr. lead SWC's. Very accurate.
4.4 Grs.700X was the winner with home cast Lee 208 Gr. WC bullet lubed with alox or tumble lubed. (alox a bit better). Very accurate.
Niether is soft shooting in my 21 ounce Bullldog!

These loads are 18 yrs old and I still have some of the 5lbs of 700X I bought after I settled on it.
With so many new powders available I'm sure some of them would do just as well if not better. If I were trying them today I think I would try Tight Group, Zip, N320, and Universal.
