i got this from S&W when i asked about refinishing my model 37......

    Hi,
Unfortunately we do not refinish this model. Because of the aluminum
alloy frame, the frame could crack when removing the barrel for refinishing.
Also we do not offer the packages for J frames. You may send it in if you
wish to have the repairman go through the gun and check it out for function
and test fire. That would be $50.00 plus $14.00 for s&h
    Please see attached

    Thanks
    kf

how can they remove your steel barrel from the aluminum frame of your model 442 but can not do so with my model 37?

Maybe the only thing done to CSA's M442 was a new coat of clear was sprayed on.
