45-70 ,crimp with OLD Hornady 3 die set..how to?

    i have a set of Hornady 3pc ... no paperwork as to how to set the crimp...the bullet seater has a "mobile insert"...do i take out the "decaper" and do it that way

    NO, the seater die is also the crimp die.

    1. Take a sized case with no bullet and screw the seating die down until it contacts the case mouth.

    That is the crimp portion of the die.

    2. Now back off the seating stem and seat a bullet until the cannelure lines up about midway or a little more with the mouth of the case.

    3. Now back out the seating stem a turn, and continue to adjust the die down until you have the desired amount of crimp.

    4. Then screw the seating stem in until it contacts the bullet again.

    5. Lock the lock rings in place.

    You want the roll-crimp meeting the front edge of the bullet cannelure when you get done for lever-action tube magazines.
