What 45acp revolver do u recommend most? I shoot 45 acp quite a bit in an auto platform and wanna shift to the revolver style. I have looked at the s&w 625. what do you all think?

You will not be disappointed. Moon clips make a revolver just as fast to reload as an auto and there are no feeding issues.

The M625 is an N frame revolver which is very solid and an accurate gun. Like mentioned above, it's Jerry Miculek's revolver of choice for most competitions and if it's good enough for him...

Well, don't forget the Colt and S&W model 1917s. They were the granddaddy of all the modern revolvers that use moon clips. They are long legged, lanky guns built on a frame that was, to my understanding, never given a frame designation. They're a joy to shoot.

I have both a S&W625JM and 325 Night Guard. Both excellent at what they are designed for. I also have a Dan Wesson .460 Rowland which also chambers .45acp. It's a fantastic revolver, but hard to find and a bit pricey.

If you go Ruger Blackhawk convertible, you won't need the moon clips.

The ruger cylinder is cut to headspace the 45 rounds by their shoulder just like your autoloader.

An added bonus is that the Ruger will come with a 45 Long Colt cylinder... actually it's the other way around... the 45 Colt can be purchased with a 45 ACP cylinder.

I just bought one for $500 locally a month or so ago... it's a really fun gun to shoot in either caliber,,, Very accurate.

The slower reloading pace of the single action blackhawk will tend to focus you on a slower accuracy style of shooting. A 625 or a nice old blued Model 25 will allow you to shoot at more of a match pace such as in IDPA or IPSC or other similar speed with accuracy style shooting events.

Your choice. If it were me I'd go one of each over time. So the only choice would be single or double action for the FIRST .45acp revolver you get... :D

Is there a .45acp revolver beside the 625:neener:

Seriously convertable Blackhawks might be kind of slow for a semiauto shooter.

But if you want to hunt.........

Well . . . I loved my 1995 era 625 5" and won a lot of pin matches with it back "in the day," before trading it off for some other project about 2000.

The one I KEPT though was my "other" S&W .45ACP . . . originally a "target revolver" called the Model 25-2. Mine was made near the end of their time . . . in 1980 so it has the tighter throats that make it shoot incredibly well.

Mine was "chopped" back in the day too . . . but no one told this now 3 1/4" custom revolver that it still can't shoot as good as a 6" or 6 1/2" 25-2!

Yep, the 625 is gone . . . but I'll NEVER trade this incredible 25-2 . . .

It's the fastest handgun out of the holster to the target and has PERFECT balance when swinging between targets and shooting fast, double action handgun matches. The ULTIMATE fighting .45ACP handgun . . . but S&W didn't see the potential back then. Several fine gunsmiths did though, and converted quite a few target revolvers back in the '80s such as this one . . .

I have a 25-2 that I belive is the single best revolver ever built.
I bought it for a range toy but it has turned into my woods gun, my home defense gun, my favorite target revolver, my Dirty Harry want-a-be gun, and all other things good in a gun.

I have a 625JM... fantastic revolver. I keep 105 loaded moonclips of 230gr ball ammo in each of two metal 5.56 ammo cans at home - and a few more in a range bag tupperware tub. I needed another .45 ACP revolver - thought about the 325NG - got this monster instead last June - for $10 less than the $589 the 625JM cost me back in 2/05! Nowadays, the Governor is over $300 OTD less, street price, than a 325NG - and only 1.6 oz heavier and with <1" more OAL, otherwise it is very similar in construction (Al/Sc frame, black SS barrel & cylinder, tritium Night Sight, etc.). It takes the same moonclipped .45 ACPs as the 625 - and a few other choices, ammo-wise, too! Great bedside gun.

Yeah, it'll also chamber and shoot .45 Schofield, .45 Colt, and 2.5" .410 shotgun shells. Mine sports the .500 Magnum Hogue grips from S&W - they aren't necessary, but do offer a larger and more comfortable grip than the OEM grips, shown alongside.

A dichotomy exists with the Ruger .45 convertible Blackhawk. It can shoot .45 ACPs - frugally priced big bores begging for a faster reload - and, change cylinder, and shoot .45 Colts - more deliberately. It's a gateway gun - my 5.5"-er was - I replaced it 9/02 with my first 625 .45 ACP - a new 4"-er. The BH had done it's damage - I had a few other .45 Colt shooters - and ~2,700 empty such cases amassed under my bench. I would eventually go beserk shooting .45 ACPs - I even started making my own, following the .45 Colts as my reason to start reloading. Even now, the roll your own savings may not be there for .45 ACPs - you can still buy a 250 round box of UMC brass cased ball ammo, inc s/t, and still have enough left for a 'Happy Meal' at the McD's from a Benjamin.

Get a DA-capable .45 ACP revolver... you'll love it... a frugal, both in ammo cost and recoil, big bore.

Have you seen the Ruger New Vaquero Birdshead with a 3.75" barrel and chambered in .45 ACP?

Single action might not be what you are after...but man, those birdsheads are looking good!

Rather have a .44Spl or .45Colt and not have to fool with moonclips. Yes, they recharge the sixgun quickly but the clips themselves, just like semi-auto magazines, do not reload themselves.
