The .45 Auto Rim was made for use in the S&W Model 1917 and Colt Model 1917 and their civilian copies. In military service, the guns were designed and used with .45 ACP and half-moon clips; after WWI, the .45 Auto Rim was introduced to get rid of the clips; it has a thick rim to take up the same space as the clip while allowing normal extraction.
Also, APC can stand for aspirin, phenacetin, and caffeine, or aspirin, phenacetin, and codeine. Super headache tablets. .45 ACP also cures headaches, but in a rather drastic way.
ACP can also stand for Allied Communications Publication, something all good military communicators should know.
