460 rowland 1911 conversion

Does anyone here use one here? curious how the 1911 frame and other parts hold up. And iare they are worth the time and $?

I'm also interest to hear what folks have to day. The .460 Rowand seems to have a lot going for it.

Tread carefully. I'm not saying it can't be done safely, but after reading this thread, I decided not to risk any of my pistols.

And you're absolutely correct. The Rowland and similar cartridges are hard on the 1911. Not so much because the gun isn't strong enough to handle the pressure...but because the lug sufrace area is small, the breech area has sharp corners, and the area between the first lug wall and the breechface is fairly thin. It all adds up to greatly shorten the life of the gun. It was designed to operate under standard hardball pressures and recoil stresses. Firing ammunition on a regular basis that exceeds proof-level for the cartridge is courting disaster.

I have a Norinco 1911 that was changed over to 460 rowland 2 years ago.Many rounds have gone through it and it seems sound and packs a punch.I carry deer hunting in holster for closer shots and coyotes that slip in.
