Anybody have some on game experiences with the 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh they'd like to share? I bought a SRH in 480 this year and I'm itching to get out and see what it'll do on white tail and black bear.

I have use the .475 Linebaugh on a pair of Eastern Whitetails. The first was a 140lb doe with a 320gr HCLRN at about 105 yards. Dead right there with substantial exit wound. Both sholders were crushed and turned to jelly. This was a handload at around 1075fps, which is VERY slow for this round. I have seen 1770fps with the same bullet and gun, but that is a handfull.
The second was with a 420gr HCLFN at about 1150fps and about 80 yards and in the upper neck. Almost no expansion with this load and the 160lb buck dropped instantly.
I have not tried it on anything else. I feel that with the right load and bullet you could take any game in North America and do it with ease.
I see around 5.0-6.0" groups at 100y and around 8.0" at 150. That is about as well as I can do with it. I am shooting a converted Ruger Bisley Hunter model with a 1.5-4X scope.

The 480 Ruger is a heck of a deer caliber from the SRH. You will be fine with Hornady XTP's if you are shooting factory loads.

Yeah, I've gone through and have a couple more boxes of the 325gr xtp's. I'm planning on getting into casting after they run out.

Just bought a Freedom Arms Model 83 in .475....hoping to hunt with it this fall. Nice to hear one doen't need a lot of velocity to be effective as that is why I dumped the .454...just too much recoil.
A friend has killed several hogs, deer and turkey in Texas with his FA .475. He has used only the Speer 400 grain soft point..all were one shot drops...
I ordered some WFN LBT bullets from Montana Bullet Works in 330, 400 and 420 grains. All are accurate but I think I am going with the 330s just for the lessened recoil. 12.0 grains of Unique is mild and runs all the bullets between 1050 to 1080 fps...

I kinda like the caliber which is why I'm buying a BFR in 480/475.

I have a pair of 480 Super RedHawks.
My Advice:
If you have a new set of unused 1" Ruger Rings with your new SRH call Ruger and trade them for 30mm. If yours have been used, just order a set of 30mm rings.
Next order a Black, 30mm UltraDot from http://Ultradotwest.com/
Next replace the grips with Hogue "Tamer" Grips they have the Smurf Blue Sorbothane strip down the inside of the back of the grips. They come standard on the SRH Alasken.
Last would be a Marbel Green Fiber Optic front sight for back up use.
Wolfe Springs ?? Probably not a real issue, as you will be shooting Single Action. Unless your trigger really needs improved, I would not change the springs.
Casting Bullets: The Lee 400 grain bullet works fine. The Lee 325 grain bullet looks great, but is too short, and is not real accurate.
I have been using AA#9 Powder for hunting loads.
For plinking loads around 10 grains of Unique should work fine.
In the 2011 Missouri deer season I filled my Antlerless ONLY Tag with a large Doe. I filled my Any Deer Tag with an 11 Point Buck.
I was using 355 grain Gas Check bullets.
Range was between 50 and 55 yards on both deer.
In my opinion the 480 Ruger is about as Bad as anyone needs for North American Big Game. With Full House ammo, the 480 recoils plenty hard for most mortals.
