Title says it all. Just brought home my 11.5" Windham Weaponry SBR and am looking to suppress it.

I'm waffling between two primarily, the AAC M4-2000 and the Silencerco Specwar 556K. It will primarily be mounted on an 11.5" AR so length is important... one of the reasons I'm not looking at 30 cal cans.

The M4-2000 has been a go-to for nearly a decade... BUT it's made by AAC so I have concerns over quality and Customer Service since being acquired by Freedom Group. But the 51T ratchet feels more solid to me.

Likewise the Specwar 556K has been discontinued but can still be found. The ASR mount seems less solid to me, but people have good things to say about it. While Silencerco has some of the best CS in the industry, they've had a few rounds of layoffs lately... just concerns over longetivity of a smaller company.

Thoughts? Anything else I might be missing in the same length/weight area? Definitely want to keep to quick detach models. Will likely be spending time on two AR's (one 11.5", one 16") and a 16" bolt gun.

Honestly, choose what you like best for cost, weight, aesthetics or other features. 5.56 SBRs don't suppress well with any can. It takes the edge off, but they'll still snap your ears, even out of a 9" long suppressor that takes .308 down to very comfortable levels.

The 51T mount on the M4-2000 is a weak point in that design. The ASR mount on the Specwar is a much more solid mounting system, one of the best on the market.

I'm fairly certain that SilencerCo is the biggest silencer manufacturer in the US in terms of sales. If I had to bet which of those two companies will last longer (and keep putting out quality products in the process), I'd put a lot of money on SilencerCo.

Check out Yankee Hill Machine's Turbo 5.56 can. I just ordered one not long ago. Good DB reduction, decent weight, FA rated and comes with a mount at an affordable price.

Also, I have a recent thread in the NFA section about 10.5" vs 11.5" and in there are a few comments about helping out to suppress 5.56. It comes down to gasses out of the ejection port and with the right combination of spring/buffer/adjustable gas block the sound can be brought down quite a bit. They are also making suppressed bolt carrier groups that could help a little extra.

Thanks... I ended up tracking down and putting the deposit down on a SilencerCo Specwar 556K. I got to play with one on an ASR mount and I'm officially sold. I don't think that thing will budge, unless stupid me forgets to lock it down.

I'm fond of the Gemtech HALO, due to price, performance, and the fact that I used them overseas.

To the OP, I was going to recommend something from Dead Air such as the SANDMAN-S with a 5.56mm front cap but you've already made your choice, and a good one at that. I have an Omega 300 and a Harvester 300 and have the ASR mount which I don't like as much as the Dead Air QD system but it's a lot better than the AAC 18T, 51T and 90T system.

As to your original question about AAC, I have four AAC suppressors including an M4-2000, but as Theohazard mentioned, the 51T interface isn't the best design. That said, I've been running the M4-2000 on a POF P415 16" upper mounted to a Spike's machine gun lower and it's worked very well, exceptionally well even, with zero issues. It's an excellent set up other than the forward weight due to the heavy full-auto rated can, and the questionable QD mounting system. I'm in the process of doing something "clever" with the AAC cans to make them better but the initial quote from the machine shop was kind of steep to say the least. I'm hoping that they'll come down on the price so that I can upgrade what are essentially excellent suppressors. I have the M4-2000, 762-SDN-6, MK13-SD and TITAN-QD so am kind of invested in these to the extent that I'm prepared to pay to make them better. I won't buy any more AAC QD rifle suppressors but will buy more pistol suppressors which are excellent by any standard.

This week I received a 10.5" POF P415 Edge upper to run on the Spike's mg lower shown in the videos above, and for the initial function test used a Dead Air SANDMAN-L (.30 cal) with a KEYMOUNT brake. Once I figured out that the .30 cal can and large volume don't generate enough back pressure to cycle the action, and had moved the gas plug back to the N position, it ran great. I used hearing protection due to the point made above but will see how loud it is with the M4-2000 once I have it upgraded. I would order some 5.56mm front caps for my SANDMAN-S and -L but am concerned about the ease with which I could inadvertently install the can in that configuration on a 6.5mm or .30 cal rifle given that I use the KEYMOUNT brake system.

What’s your preferred overall length with combining barrel and can? Also how much do you care about muzzle velocity?

I run a Gemtec Halo...save on mounts too! I always get freebie A2 hides that other people take off.

Now if I could only find a use for A2 pistol grips...

Why not the Saker K 556?

I've had that on my 11.5 duty gun with the ASR mount for a couple years with no issues. Plenty of rounds through it and removal isn't an issue nor have there been concerns with it coming loose. I beat the crap out of it training and against our armored vehicle.
