I just got a 500 Mag H&R HandiRifle and reloading for that cartridge is without a doubt a necessity. I got some lead gas check bullets (350gr and 410gr) and shot it for the first time last weekend using AA4100 powder. Fun to the extreme! I was impressed with the accuracy and kicking ability. It is not for the meek and frail.

I'm surprised there aren't more pump action carbines in revolver calibers. Not just .500 and .460, but .357 and .44 too.

I'm not a big fan of lever actions, but I guess I'm the only one.

+1 -- not sure if a 460 or 500S&W carbine would do anything a 45-70 couldn't do. And if it didn't, you could always have Wild West Guns bump it up to 457WW or 50 Alaskan . . .

Probably more to do with having handguns in said caliber like myself. Carbine and handgun combos seem cool to some.

The price is one that makes one step back a bit... I'd sure like to for Wild West Guns to produce the lever action 500 S&W we've heard rumors of. That would tempt me even more

I assume you've seen the Big Horn Armory Model 89 Lever-Action 500 S&W Magnum Carbine? This thread is a little old so this may be old news by now. There is a good review of it at GunBlast.

Looks like a neat gun but at $1900 it's nothing more than a pipe dream. I know it's custom but how many of those rifles could they possibly sell at that price? Especially when you can get other big caliber lever-actions for less than $1k.

Haven't heard anything about them actually being MADE though, just pre-orders and such that haven't been filled.
