This will probably get its slide coated by Amelon at some point but for now I need to run it and get some work done.

Very, very nice pistol. I have a G32 and it's the most accurate pistol I have and really packs a wallop. Your photos almost make my 32 seem a bit underclassed, but I love it anyway.

Hey thanks! I saw a G17L in a Pawn shop and couldn't get the money together to get it before someone else did, so this was my 'consolation' prize. I think I did ok.

whats with the hole in the slide?

All the G17L, G24, G34, G35s have that to reduce slide mass (many had comp'd barrels as well). Makes it a bit easier to carry and use.

I was thinking one thing and typing another - my REAL question, is, how do they work? Is it an illuminated sight without tritium or a laser sight or something? How can you see the front sight, are you even supposed to use the front sight?

This could have all been avoided if you would have answered what I was thinking instead of what I typed, lol.

Mike, if I could do that, I'd figure out what it is that woman ACTUALLY want, write a book on it and retire. ;)

Anyhow, substantially, from the back they look sort of like a traditional set of pistol sights. That gets you 'rough sight alignment' as you raise the pistol. The reality is that there's a thin tube in the 'front' sight portion of the sight that has dot lighted by fiber optics (tritium is an option). Anyhow, think of it as a tiny 'red dot' for a pistol. All you're using is the rear sight with both eyes open, so that you can focus on the target instead of the front sight.

I played with it in a simulator, and compared to XS big dots and traditional partridge sights, they seem to have a lot of promise. There are some quality issues and some things I need to learn more about. But the biggest issue is simply me getting trigger time with them.

i want one of these "longslides" but i really dont like the looks of that slide cutout; not to mention crap getting stuck between inside the slide/barrel. does glock make any that do not have that cutout?
 
Nope, all the long slides have that. As for the debris its never been an issue that I can find any proof of.
 
for a range gun im sure its fine; but having it open is just a disaster waiting to happen. sand, twigs, rain, everything is going to get in there.
 
I really want to do something like that to my G22, essentially turning it into a G24. I'd probably get the 6.02" .357 SIG barrel to go with it just for fun. If I ever get around to it and it looks like yours, I'll probably die happy. I'd keep the slide the same color too, I like how it contrasts with the frame.
 
Looked at the sight's home page. Looks like the front sight still provides the illumination, while the rear sight acts as a ghost ring. It's been done before, but in this instance the rear sight also has a fiber optic element which means it gives a more active light reaction to being 'on target.'

Looks pretty good. You'd lose all sighting ability if the front or rear sight got any mud between them, but promising other than that. Definitely a better solution than a mini red dot.

No. The front sight is left simply as a reference point and to fill the hole. It has no part in the operation of the TAS sights on the rear of the slide.

Do you have proof, or are you just guessing? The M9 has had an open slide for a long time, and there is no evidence that there is an issue with dirt in the gun causing problems.
 
m9 is different though, it is completely open and the dirt can work its way out. look at the picture of this glock; if anything falls in that hole; it will get chewed around between slide/barrel there is nowhere for it to go.
 
There's a whole bunch of HSLD units using original 17L and 34s overseas (CAI even managed to bring some trade ins over a while back). I personally know 3 SWAT teams that are running them (Midland TX and two regional teams in NM) without issue.

What exactly is your first hand experience with the 17L/24/34/35 Glock platform conhntr?

How can you figure out what Woman wants, when they don't even know....

When I get in to an argument with my wife, I always ask, "what would you like me to do ?".... She NEVER knows.... IT'S 30 more minutes of just arguing....that's what she wants.

if you read the thread you can see i said i was INTERESTED in one. people put a grip plug to cover the small hole in the bottom of the grip to keep debris from getting in there; id imagine a huge opening on the top of the slide would be much more problematic...

You do get lint and a bit of dirt in the slide, not gonna lie. However unless you are running around w/o out the weapon in a holster there's no way you're gonna get anything in there big enough to jam it up.

How does the sucker run w/ .357 sig with the long slide? Where did you purchase your sights BTW, they intrigue me.

No, its kinda hard to explain, but look at it this way. The 17 and the 31 use the same 'lower receiver'. This Glock is in 9mm. I bought a stock G17L barrel from Glock and a Lonewolf slide. That's all I had to do. If you wanted a 'long slide' .357sig, you'd need to buy an aftermarket barrel (in .357sig) and an aftermarket slide (like a 24 or a 35 slide in .40 cal). To be honest, I'd use a Caspian 35 slide instead of a Lone Wolf. Mine has been problematic.

Where did you purchase your sights BTW, they intrigue me.

Thank you. They are pre-production prototypes, not available for mass purchase yet.

The web site shows both an early 'beta test' version and the pre-production version that I have. So there's some confusion, but you have to see it up close to understand to be honest.

Love it, bought another out of pocket to join my first one. Light, small, very adequate light, rechargeable batteries available from the camera side of things. Not much bad about it at all. http://www.ttellc.net/tlr3.htm
 
Oh, got it, so this is basically a G17L, except you used a G31 frame instead of a G17? Makes sense. I was wondering exactly how it all went together in .357 sig :) Still something for me to ponder doing :)
