Is there one that is king of the hill and one that is junk ? Is there One that will hold 1.5 MOA out to at least 300 yards with handloads ? I don't want junk but I don't need one that will shoot .5 MOA either unless it can do it for 600.00 or 700.00 . As far as quality goes in what order do they go ? I'm sure I left a bunch out ?

Stay away from the Model 1 stuff in 6.8 SPC. The others are all about the same find the one that has the features you want buy it and give us a report.

Have you checked out CMMG?
New 16" M10 Mid-Length MedCon upper. This upper is built around the M10 multi-role barrel and comes with mid-length gas, mid-length handguards, mid-length sight radius and is complete with bolt, carrier and charging handle. CMMG semi auto bolt carriers have the shrouded firing pin to protect against hammer wear. Upper receivers are "T" marked and include extended feed ramp cuts. Features include medium contour barrel, 11 degree recessed target crown, chrome-lined 6.8mm chamber and bore, 1/7 twist, parkerizing under “F” marked forged front sight base and magnetic particle testing on every barrel. When ordering with optional gas block, barrels will not be drilled for taper pins. Barrel is stamped CMMG MPC 6.8 1/10. Threaded 5/8x24.

What's wrong with Model 1's 6.8 upper?

I know someone who was planning on ordering one.

I don't really have an encyclopedic knowledge of the options out there for 6.8mm, but my DPMS 6.8 upper has not given me any problems thus far. Seems mechanically reliable, as accurate as any other standard AR I've shot, etc.

Randall Rausch makes some superb 6.8SPC barrels, by all accounts. If you want top-notch stuff, you're going to have to step outside of the box of buying a major manufacturer and look to the custom rifle/barrel suppliers. But expect a good barrel to set you back $350 or so, exclusive of any other rifle parts (upper, BCG, etc.).

M1S uses barrels made by ER Shaw. In the earlier days of the 6.8SPC lifespan, I recall hearing that there was a tolerance stacking issue between the chambers in the Shaw barrels and the Silver State ammo. The net result was that Silver State ammo shot through a Shaw barrel would display significant overpressure signs, even though both products were nominally within the SAAMI spec for 6.8SPC. As I understand things, Silver State and Shaw have subsequently gotten together and resolved this problem.

Given what I know today, I would not hesitate to buy a M1S/Shaw 6.8SPC barrel for general purpose work.

Good info is always available here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/68RemSPC/ and here http://web.demigod.org/~zak/firearms/6.8SPC/faq.php .

stag Arms

Their uppers are high quality and I dont thinx that they are priced too bad

I have a LMT 16" 6.8mm, but I have a Stag Stag-6.8 lower that I want to put a longer barred 6.8mm on. The only thing I have seen so far is the Model 1 24" Tactical. I would probably want a 20", but I might take a 24". What do you guys think?

Stay away from Model 1, you're right.

The worst customer service I've ever dealt with and they bent us over.

been thinking the same thing

DPMS has 20 inch uppers in 6.8 SPC. I ask myself is it worth it for 80 to 120 FPS ? I'm still not sure,

Thanks,Keith

For the money I'd go with Ko-Tonics.

I've been dealing with Tim Hicks there for a while now, and he's a great guy, and builds superb uppers. He's moving on to a new barrel, and his new uppers will be awesome.

I'm a cheapo, so I bought one of his old (but unused) barrels and some other parts. I got my entire 18" RIFLE built on mostly new parts, except for the YHM specter length handguard and scope riser, for right around $700, and it shoots 1" groups at 100 yards with my hand loads no problem.

Definitely worth checking out, I'm super happy with mine. The old barrels are sold out, but his new uppers will be worth waiting for. Tim is a great man to do business, and he'll make sure you are happy.

He is a real good guy

To deal with. I bought a barrel and some other stuff off of him. I will buy more,

Thanks,Keith
