I really like the looks and your description of that holster. I would like to try an OWB because I am not sure I am going to be able to pocket carry a lot of the time. I went to the cops plus website and found a holster that is described as "Blackhawk CQC Speed Classic". Price is $37.25. I can't be sure that this is the same holster though because the picture is not that good. Can you look at this website and tell me if this is the same holster in your post?

Thanks

Re: Turned out the lights

Ralpho1, I posted last evening on page 112. Now we are back to 110 as the last page. Something is amiss, I think.

Hey sarge, I almost used all my login attempts and came dangerously close to having a time out. Except no ones here any more, are they? Are they all over at the LCP thread?

:) Just joined the Forum, this is my first post. I purchased a minty 6 month old 642 last week and after reading some of this thread I'm lookin' forward to shooting it. I was carrying a little Beretta 950 in 25acp but always felt pretty unprotected with that caliber. Think the .38 +P's should work out just fine. Hopefully I can shoot the double action snubby okay with my operated on limited movement index finger. Gotta get to the range soon !!! Thanks, Shoodaddy

Does the 642 Club allow 442's in it's club, If so..... I just picked mine up this week and through some Federal 125 gr. HI-Shock JHP into it, put it a Uncle Mikes IWB that I took the clip off for pocket carry and away I go. I've been dry firing it to loosen up the trigger put and am thinking of getting CT grips for it. Who has CT and what model do you like. Thanks, Willy G. .....If not I'll start the 442 club.

Willy G: I should think it more than acceptable. Sounds like with the rest of your gear you are GTG

shoodaddy: I use pretty much the same rig, Buffalo bore 158's +P are the load that I carry. Of the DA'S the 642 has a smooth trigger after some break in.

Hey everybody. Its been quite some time since Ive posted anything here. Just started a new job and between getting situated there and the hour long drive there and back, I havent had much time to visit. Hope everybody is doing good around here.

I did however manage to get out to the range last week. Unfortunately it was only the 3rd time Ive made it to the range to shoot my 642. Honestly, the reason I went was to zero the AR-15 I got about a month and a half ago. I figured since I was there, Id get a few shots out from the snubbie.

Ive noticed a few things from the snubbie.

1) Besides it being a GREAT concealed carry item, Im having some difficulty getting rounds to hit Center Mass. In the Army I always carried the pea shooter that is the 9mm Berretta (M9) and I never had any problems with it. Im wondering what I could be doing wrong. Any suggestions?

Part of it Im assuming is the grip. Ive currently got the stock "short" grip. (At the moment I dont remember the proper name for it) Ive got slightly large hands and Im thinking about getting a larger grip. Ill be looking into the Hogue grips for that.

Any other advice you guys may have would be greatly appreciated.

Again, its good to finally be able to get back into the forum. Hope everybody is doing good.

shoodaddy - Welcome!

Willy G. - 442's are always welcome to the club. Glad to have you.

- Welcome back! J-frames are tough to shoot well. It's best to start close to the target (10 ft works good) and concentrate on trigger control. Also, dry firing while concentrating on the sites will bring trigger pull flaws to light.

Here's a helpful link for you. http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/Making%20J%20Frame%20Work.htm

What part of the trigger finger do you use when shooting a J frame?
I tend to use the middle joint as it's such a small gun. I'm use to a 1911 so this is a new way of shooting for me. I find with a good grip and practice I can keep the sites aligned. Wonder if a CT would help with site alignment and shot placement.

I use the first joint Willy. I carried a M1911 as well for years before purchasing my first j-frame, so I hear ya there. Going from crisp and light to long and heavy is a lengthy and steep learning curve. Dry firing a ton will smooth out the trigger, strengthen your trigger finger, and steady your site picture. It's the cure-all for snubby control! :)

Is there a "moderator" monitoring this Web-site? I am relatively sure, I posted on last Wednesday evening, on page 112, #2796. Now all of a sudden we are back working on page 110????? Did we lose two pages, or am I losing my mind? Doesn't make sense.

Just picked up a new 442 this morning. It sure conceals nicely. I bought some Hogue grips to go with it, part# 60000 I believe. That little extra piece of pinky support makes this gun feel that much better in a big hand. Right now I have it in a cheesy Uncle Mikes IWB holster with the velcro retention strap.

I'd like to buy a nicer holster for this gun. I do not have Milt Sparks type money, I'd like to spend $40-$60 on something leather and IWB. I have been thinking of the Bianchi "Covert Option". Any of you guys use this holster? Am I being paranoid about carrying concealed without some form of retention strap? Here's a picture of the one I am thinking of getting.

Ian, I would say yes if you carrying concealed there no need for a retention strap get a good holser that have a good tight fit. with a strap you already having to pull your weapon out from a cover garment the strap just slow you down.

be safe

Hey old sarge, it's just us chickens, the thread seems to be in free fall, so if you want you can pick up the slack.

president 006. I just sighted in my Bushy last weekend as well, new scope. The 642 ain't as much fun, but feels plenty good being within reach 24/7

I just picked up a used 642 for $270 and two weeks later find a used 637 with C/T grips, with less than 20 rounds through it for $385 . Bought it to. Great guns. Love the Smiths trigger compaired to my Rugers. Purchased 5 smiths in the last year and thinking of selling my Rugers.

I bought a 642-1 no-lock about a month ago and would like to get some feedback on what I should expect out of this gun. First, here are a couple of targets using a mix of 158gr ammo @ 10 yrds. Shots were rested on a sand bag - as well as you can rest a gun this size.

Most of the groups are high, and some are all over the place. I'm not a great shot, but I can do much better than this with my Model 60 3" or 686 4". What should I expect for accuracy out of this gun?

Second, I noticed a couple of issues with the crown and crane. The inside crown looks like it was milled off-kilter and the crane has way more gap than my other S&W revolvers (or most revolvers I've seen). Cylinder isn't locked like a bank vault, but not excessively sloppy either.

Should I ship this revolver back to S&W? Is this what I should expect out of this kind of gun? I'm trying to have realistic expectations based on the lower price of this gun, shorter barrel/sight-radius, DAO operation, etc - not sure it's fair to compare to my other revolvers, but want to know how it stacks up against other 642s.

Any thoughts are appreciated - thanks in advance.

Dual Post

It has only begun, but is accelerating

Indeed, thought I would be back to a normal life now, but it seem the change is already beginning, new investigations daily...talk about job security...but it's keeping me away from the 642 Club, that and my new 870 and AR mid length builds, time to reassess my priorities

Did someone turn out the lights and lock the door?...Something is amiss, I think...no ones here any more, are they?...

In the interest of the membership and for the good of the 642 Club I will post this information for those who are not aware of the current situation to bring everyone up to date. Due to matters that have nothing to do with us other than the effects they have had on the good members of this thread we now have two 642 Clubs! Some folks are here and some are here, some are on both and at times it is very confusing. I am on both as time permits and attempting to maintain some sort of cohesion until we are made whole again. I urge all members to maintain The High Road standards we have become accustomed to and remember our goal here is the good of the 642 Club and the 642 Family.

shoodaddy, Ian Nersesian, rosharb, Edubya, Sun195 - Welcome to the 642 Club, We are glad to have you here with us.

Sun195 - I concur with Nem on the Crown/ Muzzle issue, not to worry. However, the Crane on your example seems to be a fairly poor fit compared to the many I have seen, not as bad as some but not up to the average. Might be worth a trip back. I would try to shoot as much as possible for awhile and see if it has any other issues then send it back with all the complaints you can find. S&W has done a really good job correcting all the flaws we have encountered with the X42's and I exspect they will take care of yours as well.

As far as the shooting goes the one thing to keep in mind with this little monster is that you need a really firm grip in order to control it. More so than any other handgun I have used. The light weight and recoil really work against you and a "deathgrip" will make a difference. I don't concern myself with tight groups with an X42, I just want them COM at contact range out to 10 meters or so, and a little spread is a good thing AFAIAC, better chance you might hit something important.

Ha ! I found you guys. Feel a little bit like the fat kid that nobody wants on the team, so they keep moving the times and the playing field.

Still carryin the 642-1 and want to look in on the folks who have increased my knowledge base about this little gun. There is a certain camaraderie with this group that membership brings. Hope it's still workin. I will be keepin an eye on ya, cause like that fat kid knows, you are never sure when they are gonna move the game.

Feel better now that I got my meds. Just completed a trigger job on my bushy, and I thought, that's what's missing in the 642, they come good right out the factory!
