I have been looking at getting a 642 for a while. Each time I think I'm ready to buy another great deal pops up and takes that money. Today I was looking again and saw that the average price on them is $360ish. I decided to stop by Academy on the way home and their 642 was $642. Every other gun in their case was "competitively priced" but the 642 was $300 higher than the lowest price I found. What in the world is that about? They had LC9's for $350, SP2022's for $399 etc.... Is there a special 642 that I don't know about? It said "642 Centennial" on the tag.

There's a no-lock, 2.5" version with CT grips that runs in that price range. Go to Buds revolver page for S&W and there are about a dozen 642 models from 361 to mid 600s.

I picked a 442 up today on Gunbroker for $320 delivered ... basic 642s are in the same price range.

A local gun shop, Outpost Armory, had the 642 on sale and the 442 for $349 this past wkend for a fathers day sale.

I would suspect one or the other could be had for that with a little persuasion.
Cash always helps too.

Or mail order even cheaper.

I agree with Post #2, that revolver probably had CT grips installed.

From the S&W Site:
M642 SKU #:163810 $449 Retail
M642 CT SKU #:163811 $669 Retail

That must be it. The one in the case did not have CT grips but I bet the sign was for one that did.

Must of had CT grips, I picked up a 642 a few months back for $340, other gun shops in the area were in the $380 to $420, no CT grips at these prices.

My everyday price (for now) on regular Smith & Wesson 642's is set
at $349.88 + 10% sales tax [for Alabama residents only]. Notice, I said these
are regular 642's; with NO Crimson Trace grips, or other fancy wood grips. We
have both the "NO LOCK" and "WITH LOCK" models for the same price. BTW,
if you want a 642 with the CT grips, no problem - just plan on plunking down
$549.88 + tax (if applicable)~! :D :) Here:

Try LCR

I purchased a new LCR .38 for $375 with no tax at a local DFW gun show. I really like the trigger on this revolver and the the recoil is not too bad. I added a CT Laser Grip for $228 minus $50 CT rebate. I find myself walking out the door most days with it in my right pocket. Check it out.

Buds price on a 642/442 is $361 delivered. Great prices considering a few years ago they were at leat 10-20% higher at least in FL.

I just asked my local gun dealer to price match the SW642, no lock, sold at Buds for $361. He priced it at $355.

Do you have a direct link? Thier web site is bit hard to navigate.

Thanks.

It's in their bi-weekly sales e-mail ... they don't put gun prices on the web site.
Call them to get that price.

Those are dealer prices at CDNN. Will they honor those prices to a non ffl holder? I'm thinking the cheapest ive seen them are 379.99 locally.

Yes, you call them and arrange payment and shipping ($15 I think??) to an FFL holder. Check with your local guy as he might already be on file with them.

You have to determine whether it's worth it or not ... price + shipping + local transfer fee vs LGS pricing which they might adjust a little to get the business. For me, no one local was going to get close to my $320 shipped price from Gunbroker.

I have dealt with CDNN on a few gun purchases and every time has been easy and fast. Their sales guys get commission so make sure you ask for the same person if they were good to you. I did, told him so and got some extra goodies last time :)
