7.62 54 need help

well i have about 800rnds of empty shells that i used for my 7.62 54 romak 3
and was thinking to start reloading.....

from what i hear its very unforgiving if u use loads that arnt suited rite for a semi auto.... can any of u guys help me out ???

also all the spent shells have Berdan primers

look everywhere but can not find 7.62 54r bullets ....arg

please help and thanks alot

Get a good reloading manual, it will help you out in a big way.

Check the diameter, it's the same as .303 British and 7.7 Jap.

Most folks advise using bullets that are under 150 grains in Romak's...wear and tear issues.

You had better rethink your reloading of the berdan primed shells. Special techniques are required to remove the primers and the primers themselves are very difficult to find.
The average person is not equipped to reload berdan primed cases.
Google "berdan primed case reloading" and see for yourself.
Sell the brass for scrap and buy some boxer primed brass for reloading.

Not worth the time or effort if anyone makes boxer primed brass in the caliber, even if you could find the primers.
Which you probably can't.

Russian/Chinese/Eastern Block 7.62x54R uses a .254" primer (RWS # 6504, and that is the only one that size made for reloading in the world that I know of.
And they don't sell them in the U.S.A.!

it is cheaper to shoot surplus ammo at 28 cents/rd than to reload.
I've looked at it and given up.

i have been shooting surplus ... its just the ammo that i have been buying has ran out, it was 147grain boat silver tip,, cant seem to find it anymore, and dont want to go back to the other stuff.... where can i find some 147 grain bullets??? or is 150's ok??

BHSS has 7.62 x 54R Winchester Brass

I think it about $100 per 250 pcs bag primed. You'd have to check current pricing.

There is so little difference between a 147 & a 150 grain bullet as to be unnoticeable when shooting them.

Hornady, Speer, and others make .311" 150 grain bullets.

Practically all reloading data you can find will be for 150 grain bullets, not 147's.

btw, I haven't found any surplus that comes 147 gr. and brass cased, except maybe some russian stuff, either way, it is not advisable to reload steel, or so I am told.
