I am pretty sure that's Australian surplus. I have some that says 83 MF on the brass and F4 on the box. I've seen variations of those markings around and it's always been the Australian.

    Is it on stripper clips?

    7.62x51? 7.62x54? 7.62x39? 7.62x25? 7.62 Nagant?

Ok, that last one was pushing it. Still, there's more than one '7.62'.

    Exactly.

    Which "7.62"?

    7.62x25, aka 7.62mm Tokarev
    7.62x39, aka Soviet M43
    7.62x45, aka Czech M52
    7.62x51, aka 7.62mm NATO
    7.62x54R, aka 7.62mm Russian
    7.62x63, aka .30-06

Yes but I bet there are not many marked 87 f4 and mf on the headstamp like Australian surplus 7.62x51

THAT would be quite a coincidence.

I'm not arguing that by any means, but it's just plain good practice to include that info in every post.
Turns the question: 'Where's the best place to get 7.62 ammo?' into 'Where's the best place to get 7.62x##?' ammo, which is clearly easier to answer right off.

    Yes, it's 100% Australian 7.62x51 NATO.

    True...

Particularly if we all had the headstamp codes of various flavors of ammo committed to memory. ;)
