7.62 bullets in a .30-30

ok heres the story.

recently i pulled the bullets out of some old wolf 7.62x39 and i wanted to load them for my .30-30 as i thought that the nato designation of 7.62 was .30 cal and that th e .30-30 was the same.

now before you go saying never load pointed bullets in a tube mag, i know these will be for single shot only.

now when i measured (with micrometer) the pulled bullets they read @ .310 instead of the .308 that my normal sierra 30-30 170gr FN measure.

so the question is will this kill me or hurt the rifle , or will it work ok?

Higher pressures, more barrel wear, etc... Think of the old Mini-30s with a .308 bore and people using .310 7.62x39 ammunition in it (I think they revised it the bore diameter). It is not condusive to accuracy (.30-30s are not WW2 German taper bore guns) and wear. It can be done, but why? 7.62x39 diameter is .310-.311 (same with 7.62x54mm Russian). American 7.62 is .308.

just FYI i have not loaded these yet as i do not feel like messing up the rifle that was given to me at birth, or sitting in a hospital from a catastrophic failure.

i needed the expert advice from THR's 1000+ man years of experience.

better idea

trade them to me 2 for 1 for brandy new .308 Winchester 150 gr flat points.....perfect for any .30-30

or trade me the loaded Wolf 1 for 2.

I have a box of 100ct 110gr .308 HP's (Speer#1835) I'd be willing to trade on some of those Wolf .310's. PM if interested.

But the 7.62x39 isn't a NATO cartridge.

Older 30-30's normally used 150 or 170 grain .307" or .308" jacketed bullets.

It certainly would not cause it to blow up using lighter 124 grain .310" steel jacket Ruskeys in it, but it's probably not good for the barrel, or for accuracy.

You also might run into chambering issues if the loaded round is too big for the chamber neck area.
